Addressing all the rude comments: This lady is originally from Shanghai and moved to Japan 20 years ago with nothing. Now you see all the comments stating she is rude and her attitude, Let me explain, she speaks Chinese and Japanese, and clearly english is not her first or strong language. So there obviously is going to be a large language barrier when communicating in English. She obviously doesn't speak much english and only knows a few words, so when you come into the shop and she says 'order please' its simple her asking you what you would like to order.
GIve her the benefit of the doubt that she is speaking english to even take your order. This was the nicest lady to me in all of Japan, I go into the shop on a foggy storming day, she asks if I can speak Chinese, I am not from China but can speak a little Chinese. So then she starts telling me what each drink is, and I order a coffee. It was storming out side and I was drenched wet, but only wearing a T shirt and she seemed very worried about me asking me if I am okay and she could open the heating for me to warm me up as she could tell I was freezing cold.
She was so nice to me but the coffee was by far the worst coffee I have had...

We entered soon after another customer, the lady running the shop yelled at us “order here” many times when she was serving the other customer. That customer was finding the correct cash in her purse and then the lady grabbed her purse and dumped it on the counter, spilling the coins everywhere, she took the amount and then pushed all the coins away and yelled at us to “order”. She was very impatient when we were looking at the menu and was so rude. The customer that was in front of us asked if she could wait outside with her partner and then the lady scoffed and rolled her eyes and made her drink. I also asked in japanese whether a drink had any barley tea in it as my friend is coeliac and barley tea is common in japan and she mocked me. The coffee was bad and the cup was only half full. The iced teas were also bad. She touched the mouth holes on the cup lid and top ends of the straws which was also a little gross, I used to work in a cafe and...
Read moreMe and my partner stopped there for a warm drink because we were so wet from what was probably the rainiest day that we’ve seen and we were damp from head to toe.
We asked for two cappuccinos but we just wanted a place to dry for a while. The lady there asked us what I assumed was “where are your umbrellas?” But we didn’t have any. She went out to the back of the coffee and after a while came back with not one but two umbrellas!
I tried to explained that we would return them using google translate but she gesticulated that we didn’t need to do we ended up taking the umbrellas with us.
This was one of the good points in our trip to Hakone since there was basically a storm that cancelled all tourist attractions.
The hot drinks were good, cheap, and the lady that served them was a very kind...
