Hamburg House — Restaurant in Hakone

It was a cold and overcast day and we were really craving some curry after hiking up from Hakonemachi. They have a full English menu and the family who run the place were very friendly and made us feel at home. They even helped us out with some more detailed maps than the ones we got at the train station. We had the shrimp curry and the pork curry and both were delicious. The food was really good! I really enjoyed the cozy place, which was not crowded, and no queue!! The host was so sweet, she proposed to take a picture of me and my boyfriend when we got the food. I loved the presentation which was in a hot plate (so it arrived fuzzy and boiling hehe). The wagyu steak was perfectly cooked, but delicious. Great hamburgers. The corn soup (Japanese style) and hamburgers are really outstanding. We thought we had enough of burgers but this place dishing out a “Japanese style” hamburger is different from most. It’s tender, “smooth” and the tomato is a gentle “not sharp/sour” flavour. I would go for the hamburger with cheese. Our family had the curry pork as well and it was good. The couple are really friendly, great service and attentive. This place is cash only as most traditional places in Japan....
