Toncino — Restaurant in Hakone

Don’t go here.

The taste was average as Japanese influenced pasta. However the quality of the seafood was totally a disaster. We ordered salmon and mixed seafood - the salmon was fine but the mixed seafood was either spoiled or half spoiled. I could smell it when it was first served. It was merely tolerable until I bit the mussel. The flesh already inedible. I then went to tell the staff, but their first response (without trying to verify anything) was no - it was definitely fresh. They kept it in the freezer, they said.

If you sell food but you can’t recognise signs of spoiled food, this is a HUGE problem. And trying to not accept the fact that your ingredients are spoiled just in order to push the problem away, it’s totally unacceptable as a service provider too.

So, to conclude, definitely not...

When we walked in, we were told "No pizza. Only pasta!" I was a little bummed, but honestly, I'm so glad we couldn't get pizza! They have an English menu, the waitress who served us spoke a little English (of course we don't expect English but it is always a plus when we go out). The coffee tasted amazing! I got the shrimp, spinach, garlic pasta and my husband got the below pictured salmon, spinach, and cream sauce. HIS WAS BETTER!! (Mine was great too, but the cream sauce on his was AMAZING.) Very friendly atmosphere. We will come back when we visit Hakone...

Small humble Italian restaurant with great food. Limited seating, place gets filled up with locals really fast. Chef take his time to prepare the meal, so the food turns out great. Tradeoff will be long waiting time for those in queue, so beat the crowd by coming...
