Highly recommend! The conversation with the owner was a cherry on top of our trip. We will definitely come back again. The food is delicious and affordable. We got the Bamboo Shoots Ramen for 800 yen. It had a cute and creatively made Japanese flag on it.
The owners are wonderful and it's a family owned restaurant. The husband has been running the place for over 50 years! He added ramen to his menu only three years ago. He studies easy and common English phrases for the foreigners stopping by but he says he often forgets :D He loves western and he has travelled through the US on RICKSHAW! The place was originally run by his father, who died at the young age of 51, and he took over immediately afterwards while still being high school. We talked about the music from 60s and how Hakone has evolved over the years. It was one of the most memorable and pleasant conversations during our stay.
If you call (or don't mind waiting) they can prepare a lunch box for you...
Read moreA ridiculous restaurant.
The menu with only Chinese characters on the back saying, "This place's food is untasty" . Perhaps the owner does not welcome Chinese customers. Since I had already been served and seated, I didn’t leave immediately.
I ordered ramen with pork. Beyond my expectation, the taste was incredibly terrible. The broth had a strong fishy taste. I've never had such bad ramen in Japan. So I didn’t finish it.
When I was leaving, the owner kept asking me 'Untasty?' meanly and unfriendly which made uncomfortable.
I tolerate different political views. But I’m not sure if the food was deliberately made bad because I was a Chinese customer. If so, it goes against the basic service principles and very unprofessional.
Please be cautious when entering, because the owner might treat different customers with different cooking attitudes, based on his personal prejudice...
Read moreLocated in the backstreet of Hakone Yumoto main street, this is one of the best "Yoshoku" restaurants in the area. Heck, I would travel all the way from Tokyo to have their croquet and fried shrimps. The interior is rather cluttered with lots of old toys and dolls (which could be terrifying for some people), and the staff could be rather dry with the interaction, but that's their style, and I have no issues. I don't remember they had English menu, so do go with someone who understands Japanese. Restaurant is rather small, so reservation is recommended. Also, no children (accompanied with adult or not) are...
