I hate to leave a bad review but it was so bad I had to. we were sat after some confusion to our booking (2 pax) and ordered the food came out in two minutes and was stone cold - we had ordered the Thai basil mince and pad Thai . Mince was colder than room temp but in a pool of grease and rice was lukewarm - the noodles were also barely warm . Clearly re heated microwave as the fried egg on top was hot. I went up to explain and the lady was apologetic but said it was fresh which was impossible for the speed and coldness of food . We apologised for complaining and paid for our drinks and left . A glass of house wine which was tiny for hakuba standards ( barely 125ml) and a glass of coke which was mainly ice and half open flat can from what we saw poured was expensive but the setting was lovely in the hotel . Other guests were also clearly unhappy when we walked in but we hoped for the best ( missing food / overcharging from what I heard whilst queuing with my plate of cold food as I couldn’t find a waiter I had to line up ) But serving microwaved food that hasn’t even been heated correctly is appalling- clearly understaffed but the staff that where there where lovely when I said I couldn’t eat that when it came out freezing . As someone who works seasonally In Happo was hoping to recommend to guests but is clearly lacking waiter staff and decent chefs so will not be dropping guests there this season . Apologies but please do better we where excited for...
Read moreNice venue but that’s the end of the positives, sadly. Booked for a table of eight and the guy argued with us that we hadn’t booked and said we’d probably booked next door by mistake. Eventually realised we had booked and seated us. Took drinks and meals orders and then we waited. Drinks came, we asked for water also. One meal came and a serve of gyoza. The meal (basil chicken) was cold and tasteless. Everyone else waited and the first two meals that came were eventually cleared and none of the others came. Still waiting for water. Meals came out eventually and were the worst we had in Hakuba. Pad Thai was noodles with stone cold chicken on top and nothing else in it. Asked staff to help with calling a taxi afterwards and gave them the number of the guy who’d dropped us off. We were told there was a 30 minute wait. After 45 minutes, we asked again and the guy told us taxis had stopped because it was snowing. They just didn’t tell us though. Asked the staff at the front of the accommodation to call a cab and it was there within five minutes. Asked the taxi driver if cabs had stopped because of snow and he said they had not. Really really...
Read moreLatern Thai restaurant is a great location with great food at great price. It’s family friendly and I’ve seen the staff going out of their way to accommodate large groups. Large servings always fill us up after a big day on the hill. I am particularly fond of the home made plum wine. The service and atmosphere is great and I can recommend it to you if you’re...
