Double Black Hotel — Hotel in Hakuba

We had a great experience at Double Black, I was very impressed with the team at the hotel given that the property had been shut for two years because of COVID. Restarting this type of property is never easy and the team has done a nice job.||For early 2023 the restaurant is not the same "high end" as before (understandable coming from a shut down), but the dinner options are decent comfort food. The breakfast is basic but nice with a good selection of either eggs / bacon /toast / yoghurts / cereals / espresso coffees / fruit / juices.||The staff are first rate and will do anything possible to take great care of you, with smiles all the time, happy to move you in the vans to closeby resorts or restaurants. They suggested several great local restaurants and made the reservations, we didn't have a bad meal. ||Later in the evening the bar was always busy and the bartender is VERY good at making great mixed cocktails.||Staff is super friendly and the hotel is very comfortable and clean. It's a bit rough around the edges because of the 2 year shut down, so that's the only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars, but other than that, it's one of the best places to stay in...

We were a group of eight people consisting of three families travelling from Australia and stayed at the Double Black hotel for one week. Our experience was excellent from the moment we booked, the communication was prompt, professional and informative. The quality of the stay, including comfort in the rooms, the restaurant and bar were fantastic. There is an onsen which was a great relief at the end of the day. What is memorable for us is the face-to-face experience and the staff were outstanding, friendly, helpful and ensured our stay was perfect. The assistant manager, Verie, was always helpful and ready to respond to any matters, nothing was too much trouble. She and the other staff are an asset during your stay. The concierge service is a valued addition and helpful to get to the ski slopes and restaurants. Communication with the hotel owner, Mark was truly remarkable, pardon the pun, Mark was available to make ski lesson/bus transport bookings for us and was always helpful, more so than any other hotel owner I have dealt with. By the end of the trip we felt as if we were leaving a family. We would definitely return and highly recommend Double Black...
