The best place in Hakuba and probably the best service out of all the hotels I've stayed at in my life. My friends and I stayed here for 14 days for a ski trip.
Koji and Chikako, who run the guest house, are extremely kind and they go above and beyond for their guests. When one of our friends got injured, Koji and Chikako drove us to the hospital an hour away multiple times and even brought us food.
Every day, they made us breakfast and because I was vegetarian (and didn't eat the bacon), Chikako made me tofu and salad, which was very sweet.
Koji also drove us to all the ski resorts (which he didn't have to because there's a bus that we could've taken), onsens, and also got us reservations to all the best restaurants in Hakuba.
The rooms are very comfortable, and there's a huge living area for everyone to use. They have a dry room downstairs with its own entrance where everyone stores their ski/snowboard gear. There's also a washer/dryer (the washer costs 300 yen and the dryer costs 200 yen), which was very helpful since we stayed for 2 weeks.
They also have a private onsen in the showers downstairs where you can relax after coming from the mountains, which was amazing!
The location is also great. It's about a 5-minute walk to the bus stop (if you're coming from Nagano) and also a 5-minute walk to all the restaurants on the main street.
Also, one thing to call out is that The Guest House is the only Japanese-owned hotel in the area, which is also why their service is so great. They can help with making reservations and know the best local spots.
I can't recommend this place enough. We came for a ski trip but left making friends with Koji and Chikako because of how gracious they were during our visit. When I'm back in Hakuba, I'm going to stay at the guest...
Read moreIf you are searching and scrolling, look no further! The Guest House Japan Hakuba is where you want to be! Koji and Chikako are amazing hosts and the accommodations are wonderful! If you’re from the USA, this may be new to you, but fear not, you will not regret staying here! There can be up to 20+ people staying in this house at once, but you would never know that! There’s plenty of room to relax. The rooms have beds and individual heaters, so you can control your own temperature. There are shared (or community) sinks and mirrors, and bathrooms, but true to the Japan experience- -all restrooms have individual stalls with a heated toilet seat and a bidet. There are separate shower rooms for men and women, where the freshly filtered water is always warm. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are provided, but you can also bring your own to use. The onsen is amazing to soak your sore muscles in after your shower!! There’s a downstairs entrance to the gear room where you can enter after a long day of skiing or snowboarding and drop your gear. This is also where you start your day, which makes it convenient to get into the van for transport. Koji, Chikako, Patrick, Anna, Molly, or any other of the incredible team take you and your group to the mountain of choice each day. This is a HUGE benefit because the buses for the mountains are often very crowded and it can take an hour or more! Breakfast is delicious and filling. The comfortable lounge area is a great way to have memorable talks and meet new friends if you wish. Or, if you prefer a quiet evening, it’s easy to retire to your room after making a hot tea or coffee. We will always cherish the wonderful memories we made at the Guest House Hakuba and would definitely stay here again if we ever...
Read moreIf I could, I would give 10 stars. I can't express enough how great it was to stay at the guesthouse with Chikako and Koji as hosts. They are such kind people who genuinely care about their guests and each person's stay at the guesthouse, providing the best hospitality imaginable. The guesthouse is super nice and has a very cosy chalet vibe. Everything is very clean and you have everything you need. Breakfast is served from early on so that you can hit the slopes whenever you want. Koji will drop you at the slopes at your desired time and also pick you up. The rooms are very nice with cosy beds and enough space for all your things. There is a ski room for all your gear, as well as a washing machine and a tumbler. The showers are nice and there is also a nice hot bath to relax after a day on the slopes. The location is great, a 10-minute walk from the Happo Bus Terminal (a bit uphill, but it was no issue at all), in a beautiful and quiet location. They will pick you up and drop you off whenever needed. Chikako and Koji will make sure to accommodate you in any way they can in regards to anything. Making reservations at restaurants, checking for rentals, public transport connections, getting groceries, you name it. Unfortunately, on my first day on the slopes, I got injured and was immobile for 2 days. Chikako got me dinner and brought it to my room, while Koji dropped me and picked me up from physio several times. They were so genuinely caring and concerned, and I could not imagine staying at a better place, given the circumstances. Again thank you for everything Chikako and Koji (Anna and Jake too!!) and while I'm sad to leave, I'm very grateful to have found this place and will make sure I...
