Had a fantastic time here after being recommended it by brilliant bartender in Tokyo. The bar has a very unique layout in the sense that’s it’s actually two conjoined bars with one being a speakeasy type bar with pumping tunes and the other being a more traditional Japanese style bar with more laidback ambience. Both were absolutely wonderful in their own ways and as expected, the cocktails were fantastic, but what really made this place stand out for me was the affable and immaculate service.
To be honest, it’s quite easy to find a bar that serves high quality cocktails in Japan and I’ve certainly been to plenty, but the problem with some of them is that the bartenders are either only interested in talking to regulars/Japanese customers or sometimes not even interested in talking to anyone at all. I’m happy to say that this absolutely wasn’t the case at Bar Alegre, with both bartenders (Osamu and Kazu) proactively striking up conversation with myself and other foreign customers. They both speak good English so no need to fear if you don’t speak any Japanese. They were kind enough to provide me with some local tips as well as some suggestions for my trip to Onomichi which I really appreciated.
As far as cocktails go, you can’t go wrong with any of them, but my personal favourites were the matcha whiskey sour and Hiroshima aviation. If you only visit one bar in Hiroshima, make sure...
Read moreWas looking for a nice speakeasy to enjoy a cocktail with my friend. After doing some research online, i stumbled upon Bar Alegre... I was curious and went for it. Was hard to know where to go on the street, saw the billboard sign with Bar Alegre on it, ventured through a hallway, went up 3 flights of stairs, and saw the entrance. Opened mini door and WOW was it nice! Very quiet with only one other patron, very small but cozy. It felt like a special place. The bar tender and owner was amazing at making us try different tasty drinks, and we were lucky enough to see the "extra" that the room had to offer.... Netherless to say that I would go back there in a hearthbeat and so would all my friends that went on the adventure with me! Cheers and enjoy...
Read moreHands down the best experience I have ever had in a bar. The bar is beautifully hidden on the 3rd floor behind a miniature door and it's dark wooden ambience feels just perfect and cozy. The bartenders, Osamu and Kazu, are incredibly generous and fun hosts who will start a friendly conversation with you in no time and answer any questions about Hiroshima you might have and give helpful advice. They are also extremely talented bartenders and their cocktails are absolutely amazing. My all time favourite drink is now the smoky whisky sour served using local Sakurao whisky. Bar Alegre is a must stop in Hiroshima and we will definitely visit again if we come back...
