The bar I've ever been to. Since my first visit, this place has become my home bar every time I go to Hiroshima.
The place has been around since 1977. Named after the founder, Mac is a "sacred" place for many bar goers in Hiroshima. Many of the customers are regulars who have been coming to the bar for more than 10 years.
The huge collection of the physical records, both CD and LP, is the main attraction of the bar. It is difficult to count, but I believe there are more than 5,000 of those displayed in the bar. No album catalogs or whatever. The owner knows exactly where the album that you want to listen to.
Needless to say, the place and the owner is very warm and welcoming. If you sit at the bar, they won't let you walk alone in silence. Instead, they will talk to you and maybe offer you the chance to choose what song next.
Drinks are cheap. Only 500 yen for a bottle of beer.
This place has a long history and memories and should have been included in a must visit list when you come...
Read moreHands-down the best bar we went to in Japan. MAC by was recommended to us by some lovely Bostonians while we were in Hiroshima, and went there for my partner’s birthday. The bar’s gimmick is that they have literally thousands of CDs and will play whatever you ask for- as Canadians we requested Tragically Hip, and then they kept playing hits by canadian artists. You can ask for ANYTHING and the bar owner will know if they have it and where it is in their huge collection. The staff was accommodating and friendly to foreigners, who can often be found there as well as locals. The beer was cold and a good price (about 500 yen) and when the Carp fanatics show up the dancing gets crazy. We found it a welcoming and excellent time. They even gave us a little matcha ice cream with a candle!
For the guys, there’s a little urinal closet with swinging western-style saloon doors on it right by the bar- it’s covered in graffiti from visitors and...
Read moreWow! Absolutely blown away by everything about this bar. As two foreigners, we could not have been made more welcome by everyone inside, including the two locals who gave up their seats for us at the bar as soon as we entered. Yuri is an amazing host with perfect English, who showed a genuine interest in getting to know us. She was generous with her time in explaining the amazing CD collection inside and how her business partner had built the interior of the bar himself. Yuri was happy to take our requests, plus the beers were cheap and cold - what more could you want. This bar will go down as a personal favourite from time travelling across...
