I'd read that Yorocco Brewery had crafted a special seaweed saison for the Noma Kyoto popup, and as a big fan of saisons – and a homebrewer who mainly brews saisons myself – I was incredibly curious. So, I made a point to visit their brewpub, Yorocco Beer Pub Sasameza, in Kamakura, hoping to explore their range, as they seem to have a real knack for brewing this style.
My visit turned out to be far more special than I could have imagined! I accidentally had the chance to meet the owner/brewer himself. He was incredibly friendly and generously answered all my nerdy questions about the Noma beer and how he brews his beers.
The highlight, without a doubt, was when I asked about the Noma seaweed saison. In an amazing gesture of hospitality, they actually put it on tap so I could try it. It was a fantastic experience. The saison was truly unique – the seaweed imparted a distinct, intriguing umami/briny character that I'd never encountered in a saison before, yet it remained balanced and delicious.
Beyond that incredible moment, the whole vibe of the place was fantastic. This is a must-visit if you're a serious beer nerd, but honestly, even if you just appreciate exceptionally well-made beer, you'll be thrilled. To top it off, they also had a fantastic West Coast IPA on tap that was absolutely spot on – hoppy, crisp, and everything you want from the style.
I can't recommend Yorocco Beer Pub Sasameza highly enough. The combination of outstanding beers and genuine hospitality makes it a true gem in Kamakura. Next time I visit Japan, I will be keen to visit to see...
Read moreGreat ambience. Local beer from a brewery that has been around for 10 years. The restaurant has been around for about 3 months. Super tasty beer. The ale – recommendation number 7 – is also very yummy. 😋
German dishes such as schnitzel, frankfurters, fried potatoes, etc. are also offered. Of course not the original German taste, but still very tasty and goes perfectly with the beer. 👍 I tried the Frankfurter and it is really tasty.
If you want to get to know locals, you've come to the right place too. 💜 I'll definitely...
