We were famished and on our way to the Kenroku-en Gardens when we decided to try Horaido Cafe which is just outside the entrance to the garden. We ate on the second floor which is adorned with seats small tables and coaches. Relaxing instrumental music was heard in the background which added to the atmosphere.
Wife and I both had pork cutlets on rice. The bowl comes with three small cutlets and rice with a teriyaki-style sauce and finished with sliced green onions. The cutlets are thin and breaded. The meat was tender but when cooked it may dry the meat a bit. I happen to like it that way and my wife liked it just fine. Wife had a strawberry cream drink and I had a glass of Asahi beer. The helpful server confirmed they were not egg noodles. We opted for soy noodles without meat and they were delicious. We also had some grilled dango on sticks - one soy and one kinako.
