We decided to make a day trip to Kawagoe to have a look around some older Japanese locations and at the same time get some Ryotei experience. Ryotei in Japanese simply implies traditional high-class Japanese restaurant; name being derived from ryō food, cuisine (shortened from ryōri; from Middle Chinese) + tei pavilion, elegant residence built in the style of a traditional summer house, often used as the final element in restaurant names. We had difficulty finding this place as the entrance was a non-descript looking wooden gate by the pavement. When you enter the gate, you walk down a narrow path which eventually opens up to a typical Japanese village type building - simply awesome.
