We've been in Kyoto for a few days eating at the "hot spots". We've been feeling a bit underwhelmed after living in Taiwan and traveling all over Asia for the last decade.
We were visiting Hei'an Temple and needed a place to eat during the afternoon breaks when most of the restaurants close. This was one of the only places we could find, and we ended up very lucky. This is a gem. Great flavors. Cold water with ice cubes in the glasses. Cool A/C. The gentleman working was very polite and spoke some English. The prices and portions were amazing. Got a nice little salad for less than US$2! As an American, that's impossible to see anymore. Clean and welcoming atmosphere. It feels very local. This has been just such a satisfying experience after the last few days. It's like we went into a different world here. Hope we can find more...
Read moreLovely curry place, best curry we had on our trip! The staff were very friendly and speaking English wasn’t a problem. They had a whole menu in English including photos which made ordering and choosing the meals incredibly easy. The food arrived very quickly and was absolutely delicious. My partner recommends the beef curry (photo, he added some stuff to the base meal) and it was easy to add additional food to the meal. In terms of spice level we found that “spicy” was just the right level if you like a bit of spice without it taking over your whole meal. The place isn’t very big which made for a cosy atmosphere but during certain times you might not be able to get a seat (around 6pm it was fine for us). All in all great place, food, staff, chef - would...
Read moreBest curry I've had in Japan. I got the Pork Katsu Curry ( Rosu Katsu Kare). The curry was so flavorfull and had way more depth than chain curry places. The pork katsu was very crispy and juicy, perfectly fried. There was just the right amount of rice that I could eat it all and not be overfull. I got my curry medium ( mild, medium, hot) and it wasnt too spicy, but with more bites it does build a little. My GF got the Beef Curry ( Befu Kare) and she thought hers was delicous as aswell!
They do have an English Menu which you can ask for. They also do know English so you dont have to worry about ordering.
I would highly reccomend coming here if you are in Kyoto and want to try some...
