Gallery Tozando Budo Equipment — Attraction in Kyoto

I found Gallery Tozando, a kendo (Japanese wooden sword training), katana and Japanese weapon store while on a bus tour of Japan. We were at the Kyoto Handicraft center and I spotted this shop and ran across the street to check it out! They have t-shirts, wooden weapons for kendo, bows, replica and real weapons and armour and antique katanas.

The store is quite crowded with merchandise, but take off your shoes and go upstairs; you will be glad that you did! It is like a museum upstairs, with suits of samurai armour on display that you can see up close. There are big, bright bay windows with suits of armour and even a couch to sit and take it all in. Glass cabinets hold antique weapons and helmets, Tanto knives, etc, all with display cards in Japanese and English.

It was such a lovely surprise to find a store like this and something that I hoped to see in Japan. It’s nice to see a store that cares this deeply to display and sell authentic Japanese...
