cafe de monca — Restaurant in Kyoto

Found this place on Instagram, and figured we HAD to stop there while in Kyoto, since we love golden retrievers. We had been to a dog cafe in the past, and it was amazing!

We had to wait in line for maybe 15 minutes, which was fine! We wanted to visit. The woman who first greeted us seemed a bit disinterested that we wanted to wait, but sure, we could let that slide! No big deal.

We got in, sat down, got a menu, looked at the dogs and laughed, as expected, and then were asked to order. The woman seemed subtly annoyed that we weren’t ready, so we then ordered quick when she came back quickly after. The iced matched lattes are a 10/10.

The people working there didn’t interact with guests too happily, really. It just seemed like we were in the way. The dogs are cute and fun to watch, though. After awhile, they made the dogs to tricks, which was funny. We then just drank the rest of our drinks quick and asked to pay. Cash only, which is fine. But again, it seemed they were very slightly annoyed that we asked to pay with card.

I don’t know. There’s nothing bad about this place. Go expecting to just laugh at the dogs and enjoy watching them, but from our experience, don’t expect superb service. Nobody else really acknowledged they were having customers either. There’s nothing that stands out as bad, but I think they could do much better, especially considering...

I called Cafe Monca the day before to check they’d be open and the staff member on the end of the phone was very helpful and has great English. We went around 6pm on Sunday and it was just myself and my partner with Sea-Chan and Sora-Chan all to ourselves. The staff were so lovely and the mocha was yummy. Very chilled place to relax and stroke the doggies. The staff member even brought out my partner some lovely snacks to congratulate her for her bday! Would definitely recommend!! I came here on Thursday afternoon and had the dogs all to myself (just two at the time mind you, Shi and Sora😍)! The food was fantastic! I had the beef strew (superb!) and a cafe latte, which was also very good. The owner was very kind, too!

If you want a place to hang out with dogs without the outrageous prices and time limits that is typical of the usual dog cafe, this is the place to go. As an expat, I miss my dogs in my home country and my experience here was wonderful and just what I needed! Will be...
