I've tried this place in the past but I've gone to the downtown Vol.2 branch more times. Their normal ramen I think is pleasant and well-made, but this time for this main branch I tried their Mazesoba. It's not the typical mazesoba that is sticky, it was almost still similar to ramen with less broth, although the noodles are very thick and I quite liked the consistency. Taste-wise, it was good, although nothing to write home about.
One thing that I should note with both branches of Ramen Mugyu is their employees are not pleasant. I don't know what training they do for both branches, but I've always found they treated people and myself really coldly. Obviously, ramen restaurants are almost like fast food in that it's a go in, eat and go out experience, but I go to a lot of ramen restaurants and I very rarely felt the need to mention any poor service, because they're either nice or just normal. Read moreLined up for lunch on a Saturday around 1.30, absolutely worth the short wait. You order through an order kiosk that has English and other language options available for non-Japanese speakers. We ordered the black ramen with fried chicken on the side. The ramen was so delicious, the pork was sliced fresh and so tender with a smoky flavour. The broth was flavourful without being too rich or fatty. Noodles were springy and perfectly portioned. The fried chicken was crispy and spiced deliciously. Everything was fresh and absolutely tasty, if I lived near here I would be going every day!!! Totally recommend going out of your way to try this ramen, you...
Read moreFollowed the recommendations and was not disappointed. Tiny little shop but very nice staff. Not sure they speak much English but the ordering machine does and the rest ist just a matter of pointing and nodding. Food was absolutely amazing. I had something the machine called "thick chicken" and it was such a comfort food, warm, hearty, full of umami. I want to fill a pool with the stuff and swim in it. The gyoza were also perfect - crispy, thin, well seasoned. Atmosphere was good, just a bunch of people happily eating with some classic rock in the background. If I ever find myself in Kyoto again, I'm...
