Traditional kissaten, mom and pop style. You can't beat the authenticity of this rustic dark and light wood decor. The menu is available only in Japanese, but fortunately it's in katakana, making it a little easier to translate. Used google translation. I found this coffee shop when i was scouting for cafes that opened at 7am so that i have somewhere to grab some coffee during my morning walk around Kyoto. I'm so glad I found this cafe. The coffee was strong and the toast was just perfect. Their serving is just right if you're only looking for a light breakfast. During mornings, the cozy sunshine would filter inside the cafe and, with the vintage music playing in the background and the elderly locals reading newspaper or chitchatting with each other, makes a really lovely atmosphere. Value: Great price and an awesome experience.

The Good: Very local coffee shop with an authentic Japanese coffee experience. The staff didn't speak the best English but they were very welcoming and even the other patrons were happy to see us (I think).

The Bad: No English menu but you can get by. The regular coffee is great and they also serve some small snacks.
