Comfort Hotel ERA Kyoto Toji — Hotel in Kyoto

I stayed at the hotel on the third floor...however, the room I was assigned had a blind window which could not be opened. So not good at all. I only give 3 stars because of the the blind room and no refund policy. Let's review step-by-step. Location is great right on the kintetsu toji station. You can also walk to tokyo station in 8 minutes. There's a mall nearby too. Aeon mall. Very good option if you need groceries or anything else.

Rooms: my room was on the third floor no way to open the window.. and get fresh air. In the room it's very dry and sleeping was not easy. So not very good to be in a room whose windows cannot be opened. Pillows are too hard but good bed. I had a double for single use. Nice bathroom. Checking in: easy, quick and hassle-free. Nice staff. Breakfast: I added 6 breakfasts upon arrival but they fail to tell you they will not refund if you fail to use their breakfast service. In my case, I left earlier on departure day and i could not eat breakfast so I asked if my paid breakfast could be refunded....they said no. Not very nice not to tell people they offer no refund. That's very unprofessional. Had I known I would have on the day of use. Breakfast food is OK. Bread options very limited. Almost the same foods. Fruit is frozen so they soak in juice and water. Yogurt should be in small individual containers. I don't like it when it's in a bowl. The warm dishes change and it's good value for ¥1650\person. Only one coffee machine for such a big place..... Laundry. Well, clothes are still damp after 60 minutes....and of course no refund or way to change the cycle once started.

Room carpet. The wall to wall carpet stinks because people probably walk barefoot and needs to be properly vacuumed.

So a nice stay and would probably stay again knowing the things I would not do again.

I also left a gift from Europe for the cleaning person , chocolates and biscuits and cash. I also had to leave a brand new suitcase behind because i needed a bigger one. I hope they can make good use of it because its never been used but as said i needed a bigger option. Please dont throw it away and give it a new...

Pros: • Conveniently located with nearby bus and train connections, plus a Lawson store close by • Neat, spotless, and well-maintained • Relatively new building • Friendly and welcoming service • Fresh towels provided daily, even with “Do Not Disturb” sign • Modern equipment, including air conditioning with English controls and a TV with streaming options • Very good soundproofing and comfy beds for a quiet and comfortable sleep! • Equipment controls clearly explained in English • Self operated laundry options and vending machines are available

Cons: • Bathroom walls felt somewhat a makeshift • No drinking water source apart from a vending machine • Bathroom could be more spacious and have a taller ceiling • Checkout policy of 10 am!!

Overall this property is decent for the price and the convenience.

Update: Check-out time is at 10 a.m., which is unreasonable. The front desk only calls you after 10 a.m., giving you an additional 20 minutes. Even a minute’s delay costs 1,500 yen, which is ridiculous. I’m lowering my rating from 5 stars to 3 because of this.

As a foreigner, you are bombarded with info in unfamiliar fonts and formats, which makes it difficult to accept the claim that “this was mentioned in our handouts”, especially in a hospitality institution. It’s a minimum kind gesture to brief such key information...

With decent sized rooms for Japan, this hotel makes for a pleasant stay in Kyoto at an affordable price.  Rooms include a TV, fridge, safe, kettle, tea, Japanese and USB A ports, and an air purifier.  It's comfortable, but I found the single pillow way too thin.  The WiFi throughout the day was good, maintaining decent speed for most usage during my stay.

As a bonus, they have happy hour basic snacks and drinks like tea and coffee in the afternoon, and the drinks continue into the evening along with a coin operated machine for wine.  Not enough to specifically be at the hotel for, but if you happen to be there then you may as well.

The hotel has 3 coin operated washing machines but from the afternoon to night they are perpetually in use, so you may be better off taking your laundry to a nearby laundromat.

It's located just south of Kyoto station, not too far but walkable if you enjoy that or otherwise it's one station away.  It's not a very busy or exciting area of town, but you are close to Toji temple, and there are some restaurants as well as a supermarket and convenience stores around.  Public transport is reasonably convenient from the...
