Tucked in the heart of Kyoto, Fujitate is a culinary gem poised for Michelin recognition. The ambiance immediately captivates, echoing a cozy Japanese restaurant with its U shaped 10 seat bar.
Starting with a delightful trio of fish sashimi, the freshly grated wasabi and premium soy sauce set a high bar. The tempura assortment is a standout, prawns are juicy with a crispy exterior and vegetables carry the same finesse. A unique touch is the medium-m fine sea salt served alongside.
The gluten wheat balls, reminiscent of mochi, are an intriguing mix of textures, and the dual miso pastes offer a sweet and savoury balance. The Wagyu is a delight, perfectly cooked to melt-in-mouth perfection. A notable mention is the Japanese omelette juicy, well layered, and complemented by radish and soy sauce.
The experience culminates with the Somen soup. The addition of partially deep fried roasted rice adds depth and flavour.
In Fujitate, Kyoto has a dining destination that, while not yet Michelin starred, showcases all the markers of one on the horizon. Worth...
Read moreAfter a lovely day in Kyoto, we headed back to Gion Corner and were looking for Tempura or local Wagyu steak. This quaint restaurant had both and more! The hostess was polite and offered us menus in English. The hand written menu with details reminded me of my childhood favorite family restaurant. At 17:15, we were the only ones there when we first arrived. The bar will seat 8-10 and there are a few tables as well. Perfect ending to our favorite day in Japan so far! Highly recommended. Our server was very kind and welcoming. She took the time to answer our queries about what each tempura piece was. We discovered we like squid even more than shrimp and had lotus and shungiku, a leafy vegetable we had never seen before. I am also finding that I like okra in Japanese cooking, which surprises me because I have never cared for the taste of Okra in the US.
If you are looking for a pleasant place to enjoy dinner in Gion, Japanese Cuisine Fujitate will not...
Read moreAn incredible meal from an incredible chef, we decided to share a 5 course omakase and some yuzu wine. They were very accommodating for our order. The yuzu wine was amazing. The food was incredible, every bite I had felt like the most amazing thing I have ever ate. I kept repeating my response like a broken record because everything was so delicious. After finishing the 5 course omakase we ordered it again, the chef made another completely different set of dish which were even more incredible than the first set. After that we wanted more and the hostess recommended the edamame ice cream (if you like pistachio ice cream you will love) so unique and so happy we got it. The staff were so kind and answered all my questions, I enjoyed every bite and I would fly across the world just to...
