Yakiniku Kure — Restaurant in Kyoto

This place is quite expensive, and the meat is not good. It was INCREDIBLY chewy.

The owners are kind and genuine. Their intoxicating personality is what brings people into this restaurant. Read the reviews, almost none are about the food. They are about the owners and how fun they are.

I almost never write bad reviews, especially when the service was so great and fun, but this place has 4.9 stars, and it’s tricking people into thinking this place is halfway decent.

I repeat, the food is NOT good. It’s not going to make you sick, but you’re going to chew so much you’ll spend the rest of your trip in Kyoto absolutely mogging every single person you walk by because your jaw will be chiseled after...

We come across this little gem of a place in September 2024 as we were just walking along. The beef was prepared infront of us and then placed on the bar for us to cook. The couple who own this bar are so friendly, fun and welcoming. When we left, we accidentally left a bag there and after realising about 30mins later and running back thinking it would no longer be there (we are from the UK), we were amazed to find the owners had placed it in the window for us to see if we passed by again. They were so pleased when we returned to collect it. Going back to Japan next year and hope to find they are still there telling...

Most important detail: it’s the type of place where (aside from delicious food) foreigners, locals, and the owners mix in a way that is both comfortable and novel. The Kochori salad is low-key fire (my little sister would be proud of me saying this but basically it’s delicious). It is a Japanese interpretation of Korean BBQ and I believe one of the owners is Korean herself. Do yourself a favor and enjoy the experience, it will be worth it for all involved.
