Hama Sushi - Kinkaku-ji Temple — Restaurant in Kyoto

Place is perfectly fine for what it is - not by any means terrible. But on many points, I would recommend the nearby Kura Sushi instead. *Even when there were clearly seats available, the automatic check-in system made me wait for my number to be called... waiting and waiting until staff clicked something to trigger it to actually call my number. I have never had to wait at Kura. *There is no food on the conveyor belt. You have to actually order, one by one, each thing you want. Which is fine, but more hassle. And, if you want the "conveyor belt sushi" experience, this isn't the place. *More expensive than Kura. *Despite machines at the register that could easily be set up to do automated check-out, I instead had to wait for a staff member to ring me up. I really enjoyed the sushi at the Hama Sushi Kinkaku-ji. It was my first time visiting this chain, and it did not disappoint. The nigiri eel and tuna were better than I had at Sushiro. Hama Sushi seemed to have a wider selection as well. It took about 10 minutes to be seated, but seeing as how it was the lunch hour, that's probably faster than it might have been. I had the sweet dumplings for dessert, and they were delicious. My wife enjoyed the pudding. Both my teenage sons consider themselves sushi fans now, so Hama Sushi must be doing something right because they're pretty fussy. Recommended!

This conveyor sushi place serves very affordable and reasonably tasty sushi. Compared to most sushi in the states, for instance the Kura chain in texas, the quality is far higher. Compared to Midori sushi in tokyo or nicer places, of course it’s not of the same caliber. However, for this price point it is incredibly worth it.
