We didn’t book in advance, but luckily there were seats on the second floor. Only a 4000-yen set menu was available. Due to the language barrier, we didn’t order sake initially and only got a small carafe halfway through, which wasn’t enough. Later, we noticed several bottles of sake on a front table, with some guests helping themselves. After asking the staff, we learned that for an extra 2000 yen per person, you could enjoy unlimited sake. We added this option, but the language barrier made it hard to understand the sake varieties, and by then, we were almost done with the meal, which felt a bit late. Apparently, this restaurant is affiliated with Kyoto’s Tamanohikari brewery, no wonder all the sake bottles were Tamanohikari. It’s a pity we couldn’t fully appreciate the essence of their sake this time. The appetizers and sashimi were very fresh and high-quality. The pork cutlet was well-cooked but a bit bland for my taste. Overall, the food was good, but knowing about the unlimited sake option and sake varieties in advance would have made the experience...
Read moreMy sister and I discovered this restaurant while looking for a place to eat oden. The shop serves oden at night only but luckily for us, their set lunches were really good. Turns out they are a sake brewery and their dishes incorporate sake lees.
The set lunch was about 2500 yen per person and it came with a welcome drink, a platter, soup, rice with fish and a small dessert. The set lunch menu is changed each month featuring special seasonal ingredients. The platter was very pretty and while each food item may not look like a lot, the meal was actually very hearty. Our favorite was the sake lees cream cheese which you can also buy from the shop.
By the end of the meal, we could not finish the rice and a kind shop attendant helped us to pack the rice into 2 onigiris for us to take away. She even drew a cute smiley face on the packaging and it looked adorable.
Overall, it was a nice and peaceful restaurant located in a convenient area. My sister and I had a wonderful meal together and we are sure we will return if in Kyoto.
I will definitely need to...
