after a few weeks of traveling together, one can steal an hour away from one's family and have dinner with a book & a beer in a small kyoto neighborhood resto serving japanese style curry. food was vy satisfying (had the black sesame curry) and, were i still in my 20s like this eastern european couple sat next to me, exactly the kind of atmosphere i wouldve hoped to find wherever i happened to be with the current love of my life (bali?). but bc i left my 20s many years ago, what i appreciated most about this meal was the special spoon and dinner dish combination: dish was 9-inches & curved upwards along its edge about an inch; spoon's handle wasnt straight but curved at an angle that made eating out of the dish perfectly harmonious without a fork. this level of thoughtfulness just moves me :) anyway, i should mention tbfair that my bench mark for food is more like the old tabla at madison sq park or early aughts nobu bc, as ive...

We came here for lunch and were blown away with the curry! We ordered the cutlet curry, black curry with beef tendon & egg added, black curry noodle with egg added, and then finished with dessert - Wasanbon pudding. We have a lot of delicious curry available in Los Angeles, Gardena, Torrance, and San Francisco California as well as New York, but this curry was amazing - one of the best meals we have had in Japan! Such an amazing meal! There was no wait and the owner was so patient (we didn’t realize we stayed 20 minutes after closing time). Sorry for staying too long. “Gochisousamadeshita"...

Had a lovely pork cutlet and rice curry here for my last night in Japan/my birthday. It's a small restaurant open only a few days a week but I was lucky they switched operations from the day before. Plus it was conveniently across the road from my hotel.

The restaurant itself is very cosy and quiet, with some homely décor like vine/bulb garlands. The staff were super polite and easy to communicate despite the language barrier. The meal was great. A little kick that built up throughout, very tasty overall, definitely a highlight of my trip. If I happen to visit Kyoto again it'll be a must...
