The staff were so friendlySince I had an early morning flight the next day, I decided to go to a place near Kyoto Station.A taxi ride to Gion Street cost about 1,200 yen, so the distance was okay.To be honest, the accommodation was an average motel, but it had tatami mats and a Japanese atmosphere, so I bought beer and food from a nearby convenience store and chatted while staying there.Japanese sensibility + best for groups of peopleRecommended if you want a very clean place for couples. There is a bathhouse on the first basement floor (looking at the picture, I thought it had an open-air feel, but there is just a veranda or something lol) I was tired from walking around all day, but after washing and taking a bath, I completely relaxed and it was great. There is a hair dryer, disposable razor, shampoo and body wash in the shower room. It's open until 12 o'clock, so I took a good bath...
ย ย ย Read moreStayed one night in Izumiya on our very first trip to Japan and thus our first stay in a traditional Japanese Inn. Firstly its very convenvient for central Kyoto /Kyoto Station maybe 10 mins walk max. Also its right opposite a Temple/Shrine which is well worth a short visit. Price wise very good value but experience wise, if you have never done this type of hotel, quite fab. We really loved the welcome we had from the staff in traditional dress; the introduction to the room, including a mini tea ceremony etc. The traditional room with futons and kimonos to wear was great and the traditional design of the room was lovely. Bathroom was a bit basic tho but thats only a minor quibble. We also really loved the traditional Japanese breakfast, again served with a bit of ritual. whetheer you stay here or not we would recommend a Ryokan experience for at least of your stay in...
