First Try of Sakura Mochi on a Stormy Day

We went there on a rainy day when there was a typhoon hitting the area so we tried to stay inside and took our time to try this recommended shop for traditional sakura mochi with green tea. The taste was great and unique. Green tea was traditionally strong but surprisingly refreshing which going incredibly well with this local mochi. The mochi was wrapped with sakura leaf separately serving with sweet red bean. The lady staff was friendly and nice. She introduced us how to drink and eat it all in Japanese, lovely though. The shop is situated at a very top-notch location which we enjoyed the view of Togetsukyo...

We had a lovely lunch at Kotokiki-chaya, a cozy Japanese restaurant located right in front of the scenic Ōi River (Katsura River). The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing, perfect for a break while exploring Arashiyama.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. You place your order and pay first, then the food is served hot and fresh shortly after. Everything we had was delicious and satisfying.

Overall, a great dining experience with a beautiful riverside view. Definitely worth a stop if you're...

Pros: Convenient location Quick service Nice view Good comfort food

Cons: Tables were a bit cramped

The service, prices, and food were all good. The soba noodles were cooked perfectly and the pork cutlet was great and would definitely recommend. Note that you pay after ordering, BEFORE you get your food. The view overlooking the Katsura river is very nice. If you’re looking for a quick meal for a reasonable price,...

Ordered the Sakura mochi and green tea set for 730yen. Tea was lukewarm and bitter, good complement to the sweet mochi. The set came with 1 rice mochi wrapped in red bean paste and another rice wrapped in savoury tasting Sakura leaves. Small but quite filling as a snack. Okay view of the mountains and mountains of passerbys opposite. Good for a convenient and temporary respite from the crowds!
