Kyoto Steak Nandaimon Nishiki — Restaurant in Kyoto

I hoped the negative reviews were just nitpicking, since there were many more positive reviews... I'm not sure if something has changed, but to me, the negatives weren't harsh enough... The "Wagyu A5" cutlet I got was stringy and tough in places, cold, didn't seem marbled at all, the breading just fell off, and most importantly, it just tasted watery... And this cost 3 times more than I'd expect to pay anywhere else. My strong recommendation to anyone is "Stay away, this isn't the mid quality wagyu place you're hoping for". I'm guessing tourists overinflated the rating... The service wasn't bad, and the atmosphere was nice, but the food is what matters, and...

Very lovely Japanese style restaurant hidden in the small crevice within Nishiki market. Not that noticable but the place offered great atmosphere. Nice ambient music, calm atmosphere, very welcoming staffs. I ordered wagyu steak with rice set (rice, soup, salad, pickles). The price was 2650¥ which in my opinion is a reasonable price. Potatoes were soft and very tasty. Sweet fruity steak sauce. Miso soup had great scent. Crispy salad. Tender steak. Overall, recommended especially on a tiring day. They offer hot tea...

I'd give this place 6 stars if I could. The food, service and decor were all flawless; the prices were reasonable and if anything a little less than expected after such a good meal.

Being a newcomer to 'meat' sushi, our hostess kindly explained the recommended way to attack my food in very good English. The beef rice bowl and Nika sushi were both delicious with a wonderful texture and surprisingly fulfilling.

I'd love to come back here...
