Normally I review on yelp for my own memory but not much there for Micasadeco. Put my name on the sign up sheet 1:40 on a weekday and wandered around Nishiki for a bit. Had about 10 groups in front of me, 3 no show, and got called ~45 minutes later. Waited inside for about another 10 minutes before seated at a table. There is a physical menu but ordering is through QR code. Ordered hojicha latte and matcha fluffy pancake with additional matcha whipped cream. Latte came out first and I finished it before the pancakes came out. Not bad but very basic, minimal. Pancake came with raspberries with some gold leaf and chocolate at the bottom. There were two light cream which I assume is whipped cream since I got two. Also had raspberry whipped cream, and a thicker matcha cream. Pancake by itself was mediocre. Not sure if normal (first fluffy pancake) and if ricotta would have been better. The raspberry whipped cream was the best, matcha cream second, and matcha whipped cream just okay. Raspberries might have been seasonal. Overall okay, but completely a skip in my opinion for time spent. Locals might come as they serve lunch set and likely why they request 90 minutes. I think most visitor to Kyoto likely don’t spent that much time.

We came here to try the famous fluffy pancakes, but the overall experience left a lot to be desired. We waited over an hour just to place our order, and then another 20–30 minutes for the pancakes to arrive. The check-in process was confusing, we had to write our name on a list with no clear instructions, and we saw another couple skip ahead by pretending to be someone else when the staff called names. What made it more frustrating was that the restaurant itself was half empty, and the indoor waiting area was unused, while people stood in a long line outside. The coffee was good and the pancakes were tasty and nicely presented. If you’re dead set on trying fluffy pancakes in Kyoto, these were good and likely TikTok-famous for a reason. But unless you enjoy long, disorganized waits and a touch of chaos, I’d suggest trying another place. The fact I had enough time to reflect on all this and write a full review while waiting says a lot (also a contrast to the overwhelming positive comments which I think are a bit overhyped, besides the people mentioning the very long wait time and list system). Probably not worth it in a city with so much else to offer.

BROKEN & STOLEN @ MICASADECO KYOTO

Micasadeco stole my heart ❤️ What an amazing place in the middle of Kyoto The building is about 100+ years old Amazing architecture and interior design I met Noah and KJ French 🇫🇷 and British 🇬🇧 Both these guys spoke excellent Japanese 🇯🇵

Atmosphere is pretty good too Japanese staff lack warmth but the foreign staff made up for it

Menu was good and the QR ordering process is convenient

I ordered the matcha 🍵 pancake which was absolutely yummy, took about 25 minutes for the food to arrive which was perfect as I was gathering my thoughts

My heart ❤️ was broken when the pancakes 🥞 arrived 💔 amazing presentation, I think it is Noah who brought the food to me, after eating everything I felt like MICASADECO had stolen my heart ❤️ again, damn the food is amazing music well not too good

Value for money 💴 yes 👍🏼 Good food yes 👍🏼 Friendly service yes 👍🏼 but only from the foreign staff which I don’t understand why the Japanese staff are not friendly Atmosphere not bad at all 👍🏼 Time well spent yes 👍🏼 Will I come back with my wife and kids yes 👍🏼

Thank you Noah and Kj for an amazing experience Offered them a tip and they refused it …..

10/10 Micasadeco...
