Was in Kyoto for a show at Pop! Pizza , this was my first time here. Hands down had seriously one of the best times I ever had in Japan here. Dan the owner such an awesome guy, love the vibe and feel about this place, when I say a dive place I mean that in the absolutely best compliment I can give. He was pouring me some amazingly awesome stiff drinks that you almost never get here in Japan, I'm originally from Wisconsin so I'm used to strong big drinks so this was like I was transported back home for a night, it had that feel to me. Plus it's a live house and the punk vibe there is great too, small place but gives it that extra charm during a show. After the show pizza's were being brought out, had a couple slices and the pizza was top notch too, especially while having drinks. You know maybe this place isn't for everyone, but if you like places like this or are missing places like this you used to frequent back home, then this place will be right up your alley 100% Those who come here and write negative reviews, you could have clearly read the room and just simply turned around and walked out. The second you walk through the door you pretty much know what you are getting yourself into here. For me that feeling I got after walking through the door was one of "oh yeah I'm going to really like this place" I live in Gifu-shi, but whenever I can get back to Kyoto I will always try to make it here if I can, I'm sure there will be other shows I will eventually need to come here to see as well haha If you like punk, drinking and pizza then highly recommend Thanks Dan for such an awesome time when I was there. Look forward to it again...
Read moreGreatest place I have ever been. Greatest atmosphere especially for the band people and for people who miss the music they heard when they are teenagers. I strongly recommend people to visit here while traveling kyoto.
The pizza was precisely the type of pizza that you can only enjoy on New York. This is special and unique since there are no other pizza place in kyoto like this. The price is cheap, but the taste is great!!
Also, the owner Dan is very very very friendly. He can speak both English and Japanese. So don't be shy and talk with him. Also the local customers on the store is also super friendly. They will gladly welcome you.
I stayed in kyoto for 10 days and this was the absolutely the greatest place. I hope more and more people discovery this...
Read moreTo put it simply, this place kicks ass! The pizza is an excellent NY style, sold by the slice - I particularly enjoyed the sausage and the classic pep. I liked the pizza so much I had three slices!
What really makes Pop! special though is the people. An ex-pat melting pot of regulars includes North Americans and Europeans along with local Japanese, all of whom make you feel welcome as a first timer, making room for you at the bar and including you in conversation. To borrow a TV cliche, it's like Cheers, but in Japan and with better music. If you're in Kyoto, it's worth locating to have a slice, a beer and some friendly conversation. I will personally go out of my way to return given the...
