After two weeks in Japan my husband and I were craving some “western food”. Mexican is our favourite so we came here. There was a queue outside (as there is everywhere - this has driven me mad in Japan). We thought we would have to write our name down but instead we were asked to order and pay really quickly. We waited around ten minutes to be seated at a small bar.
The menu for the burritos didn’t make it clear that they come with everything - the “additions” are in fact extras, so my burrito had double cheese and double sour cream, making it difficult to eat. It was quite nice, although it didn’t taste particularly Mexican and the beef could have been more flavourful. We got the set meal which included a really small amount of French fries.
Margaritas were delicious.
Unfortunately…the following day, my husband and I have gut issues. We hadn’t eaten anything since breakfast at our hotel before we ate at Que Pasa so I can only assume something made us unwell. When I was eating at the bar I noticed it wasn’t particularly clean in the food prep area, and they didn’t have a separate sink for staff hand washing.

We recently ordered carne asada burritos from Que pasa and was extremely disappointed with the quality of the food. What was supposed to be carne asada turned out to be ground beef seasoned with what tasted like a generic taco seasoning mix.
The lack of authentic carne asada flavor was a major letdown. The seasoning tasted bland and artificial, failing to provide any depth or complexity to the dish.
Furthermore, the overall texture of the burrito was unappealing, with the ground beef mixture making it feel more like a run-of-the-mill taco filling rather than a well-crafted carne asada burrito. The lack of attention to detail and authenticity in the preparation was evident, leaving a lot to be desired.
In conclusion, my experience with the carne asada burritos from Que pasa was far from satisfactory. The misrepresentation of the dish and the subpar quality of the ingredients greatly impacted the overall dining experience. I hope that the restaurant takes this feedback constructively to improve their offerings...
Read moreWho would’ve thought we’d find a cute little burrito spot all the way in Japan? That’s actually their tagline—and it fits perfectly. Que Pasa in Kyoto is a charming, cozy restaurant that brings a fun, unexpected twist to the local food scene with its Mexican flavors.
The place itself is small but welcoming, and the burritos were surprisingly good. The salsa was a standout—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. We went for the set menu option, which was simple but satisfying.
One downside was the drink selection. Most of the drinks listed weren’t available when we went, so we had to settle from the 2 available option, which was a bit of a letdown—especially when you’re paying for a set menu and hoping for a full experience.
That said, if you’re craving a burrito in Kyoto, Que Pasa is a solid pick. Great portions, great salsa, and an overall fun little spot that feels like...
