Shoto Cafe KYOTO — Restaurant in Kyoto

Having already been to the Tokyo outlet, I had high hopes for my favourite Chiffon cake at the Kyoto outlet. To my delight, my expectations were met perfectly. The Chiffon cake is light, airy and buttery, with fresh and delicious whipped cream. Truly one of the best cakes I've ever had. I'd recommend going just for that.

I also quite like their iced Latte. It's a generous portion, and has a good amount of bitterness and flavour.

A few things that could be improved in my opinion (but my rating stays 5/5 because the below won't affect a lot of people):

1. the chai latte was quite strange, and mostly tasted like cinnamon milk. There was no tea flavour and it tasted nothing like chai.
2. I went with my girlfriend and we wanted to order a coffee and a cake to split, but we were forced to order one drink per person. I know this is common in japan, but it would make more sense if it was one item per person, instead...

I don’t usually leave reviews but this place blew it out of the park. First of all - I want to start with the exceptional service that I received. The location is cash only and we forgot to bring our cash, but the owner and barista were extremely accommodating and even let us take our food to go and told us to pay later. The entire time they were extremely gracious and always had a fantastic attitude.

Now onto the actual food itself - the latte that we ordered was probably the best we had in all of Kyoto. Strong, aromatic, and bursting full of flavor. We also ordered the sponge cake at the side because we couldn’t help ourselves, and no joke - this was the best sponge cake I’ve had in my entire life. 100% a must try if you’re in the area, and will be sure to come here again next...

I went in a light lunch here. It is an old house transformed to a cafe. The guest area is on the second floor, well designed, friendly and clean. The staff is very kind english speaking, helpfull. I got real espresso, a jar of orange juice and an amazing beef sendwich (sold in four sizes). I would give six...
