My friend & I stayed at Kyoto Sanjo Ohashi for two nights and it served us well. ||||Located on a quiet backstreet in a fantastic area of the Gion district, the hotel is also a couple blocks away from Sanjo Station (which provides easy access to the vast majority of Kyoto via its subway system). Whilst the small lobby of Kyoto Sanjo is unlocked (accessible via an automatic sliding door), access to the rooms can only occur with your hotel key. We had a street-facing room on the second floor and it was absolutely massive, more of a hotel suite. Additionally, the room had a washing machine (!!) and laundry detergent that you could purchase from the front desk. After coming from a very small Tokyo city hotel, this was a breath of fresh air! ||||That being said, the room is very, very blandly-decorated (think of any motel you've ever stayed at) and the reception at Kyoto Sanjo Ohashi is mostly unmanned; we only saw one person when we first checked in and never saw them again. Additionally, despite staying for two nights, we didn't receive any housekeeping which was a little bit unusual. So, in some ways, this place feels a little bit more like an Airbnb instead of a hotel; I certainly wouldn't rely on it for any traditional hotel services or amenities.||||That being said, the room is a wonderful location (close to the subway + walking distance to the heart of the Gion) and incredibly spacious (you probably won't find anywhere bigger whilst staying in Japan) and very good for both a quick stay (or for those traveling with a larger group of people)...

Read moreUpon arrival we were greeted with very friendly and helpful staff at check in. The room was a good size for us, two big beds which we shared the four of us. TV was small but we didn’t use. Big fridge and freezer, and washing machine in the room was so convenient. The dryer is also in the bathroom shower where you can hang things up and turn on dryer to dry, use your Google translate if needed for controls. They also give you free washing liquid and you can get some other free bathroom things at the front counter if needed. There’s also a drink vending machine which is very handy. Room also had stove top and you can hire kitchen stuff but we didn’t need to. The staff were also very kind to organise a luggage pickup and forward to Tokyo for us. Location was also really good, train station entrance was about a 50m walk away and the main shopping area is only a walk across the bridge about 200 metres away. We had a great stay and would definitely recommend...
