This is the cutest and friendliest restaurant owners I have ever met in my Japan trip.
We was there at around 3pm after exploring Gion, so when we came in, there was no guest at all and I think the owners were even taking rest 😂. But once they saw us, they were rushing to go welcoming us and gave us the menu. Even though they can’t speak English, they still tried very hard to communicate and explqin the menu for us.
We ordered donburi with tempura vegetables. I think they only have 2 options for donburi, the vegetable one in summer and another type for winter. The taste was really good and special, but the portion is a bit too big for me that I am so full after finising it 😂. I especially like their miso soup. They have a very special type of mushroom in this soup, that is better than any other ones we had in Japan. When we were talking to each other about this special mushroom, the owner noticed it and immediately brought her ingredient book to show us that mushroom. I think it is the special type of mushroom that is grown in Kyoto. And it is so cute for her to try to introduced the ingredients to us.
The food is also freshly made when we ordered, so it is really warm and fresh, but that could also make the waiting time a bit long. The restaurant is a family-run restaurant with only 2 people, the owner and the cook (I guess that is her son) so everything is very down-to-earth and I feel that you can experience the authentic Japan here.
The decoration is also very pretty. I feel like I am in an traditional house in Japan that I usually see from movies 😂.
The price was cheap too. I think one donburi costed...

The food was brilliant and reasonably priced for the portions you get. The chef and his sister who run the place are the nicest people I have had the pleasure of meeting while here and were very welcoming to foreigners and very happy to make conversation when they are not busy.
They were very accommodating and offered tea to try which came up in conversation and had a sweet chat about the handmade art pieces used in the restaurant.
The place has a small bar and some upstairs seating but space is limited. That is not to say it took away from it's charm at all, just to be mindful of if you have a large party and to consider making a reservation.
The decor is wonderful and so homey, this place feels like you are at family's for dinner in the best way possible.
Overall, a 10 out of 10 experience and I would highly recommend anyone staying in the area to go. We left with a full tummy and fuzzy, warm feelings from this...
Read moreWe were walking through alleyways looking for somewhere for dinner when we came across this restaurant. It is a family run restaurant and we experienced wonderfully, friendly service. We sat at the bar and watched the chef cook our meal. He and his mother were so kind and explained some of the special ingredients to us using some cooking books with pictures and English names. We both had the vegetarian tempura bowl, it was very tasty and warmed our hearts as well. They gave us miso soup, tea and pickled vegetables to go with it. When we left they gifted us some drink coasters! Would recommend for a casual dinner to remember after looking to see some geishas. We won’t forget the good...
