Tendon Restaurant Loosen Up! — Restaurant in Kyoto

An unassuming and small place. The whole place can only sit 9 people at a time and I was lucky to be able to get a seat. Only two people working - including taking orders, payments, serving, cooking, cleaning. Food is a bit of a wait cos they fry your order one by one. I ordered the Deluxe set and the whole set was delish! I usually don't like food which is deep fried in batter but this got me chowing down everything.

The tempura items were fresh and piping hot when served. The size of the seafood items - which included fish and prawns - were generous and they do not skimp on the size. Extra 'sauce' were provided but I did not use much as I would like to savour the original tastes of the tempura. I didn't really finish the rice as it was too much for me but finished all the fried items and miso soup

Would recommend definitely if it's on the way of your 'walks' between places you visit but should not be something that you will travel out of...

Delicious tempura don! We went in on a miserable, rainy day, and it was incredible comfort food. I ate everything on my plate and left full and warm. My husband had the shrimp bowl for ¥‎ 1800 and I had a feature eel ten-don for ¥ ‎1500. I added cream cheese tempura (3pc) for ¥ 200. We tried the matcha craft beer, it was on the expensive side but definitely worth the try. They were very foreigner friendly with menus in multiple languages. But what really made the experience was the friendliness of the staff and the humble and kind owner, coming to the door to thank us on our way out. It's a small space, and we lucked out with only two seats available at 2:30. They also do take out. Best tempura...

Service is slow but the food is soooo worth it, best tempura I've had so far after 10 days in Kyoto.

Food: I ordered the special set. The rice is hot and fluffy. The tempura batter is not greasy and doesn't have a bland taste. It's crispy hot, and everything tastes good. The miso soup has a smoky taste and it's not salty.

Service: The speed is slow as it's just 2 person, if you're impatient don't come and let it ruin the food. Both of them are very friendly.

Place: The shop only sits 9 people. My eyes were burning after awhile due to the smoke, there should be better ventilation.

Overall despite the slow service and bad air, I would still come again...
