I popped by for lunch yesterday after walking around the local shrines. As soon as I arrived I was warmly welcomed and introduced to the menu.
It can be tricky to find vegan options in Japan, but not here. I was shown lots of items on the menu that were vegan and asked for their recommendation as there was a lot of choice.
I had the plum onigiri, kelp onigiri, and inari all with their gently fermented brown rice and red beans. It was all incredibly tasty, particularly the inari. I also ordered the pumpkin soup which was very delicious!

Read moreI walked past this little hole-in-the-wall takeout store this afternoon, which is tucked away down a quiet residential street. Something told me to stop and I'm so glad I did! It was so nice to meet the owners – a warm and very friendly couple, who both speak English. There are several vegan and vegetarian options on the menu and I ordered a couple of onigiri and an inari sushi (all vegan) and they all absolutely delicious!! I only have a couple more days left in Kyoto, but am already thinking about catching the train back here from Osaka, just so I can eat...
