My mother and I were visiting from Australia and loved going to this bakery in different locations. The quality is exceptional, however we had such an unpleasant interaction at this location. I understand the language barrier is frustrating, so I was very polite when ordering. I ordered two teas and pointed on the menu to the item I was ordering. I could tell the staff member was not paying attention, she was distracted and chatting to other staff. She ended up making two coffees, so I said apologetically, “oh I ordered two teas” and once again pointed to the teas on the menu. The staff member was so incredibly rude, and acted like it was my fault! I took out my purse to pay the difference, and she shook her head in the most dismissive way, to the point where I almost thought I had been overcharged and would be refunded. She then proceeded to ask the assistance of another staff member, as the error seemed to have caused such an inconvenience and she seemed so annoyed at me. She then refunded my initial payment onto my card, then I had to repurchase with the added charge. When I checked my bank account, the international bank fees for correcting the error in this way were so high! It’s so frustrating that she couldn’t just accept the difference in cash. It was such a small amount, less than 70yen! Instead, I’ve ended up paying so much more, and it wasn’t even my mistake! I’m not an arrogant tourist, I really took time to point to what I wanted to order. The staff member was just careless, and it was a really...
Read moreEvery time I came I had a not so pleasant experience. The food is good, but the menu is extremely confusing. If you order toast, you have to order a drink with it. The first time, they gave us the possibility to pick from a variety of drinks. There were two chocolate options: cocoa and cold cocoa, indicating that the first one should be room temp or hot. We order the first one and get two iced cocoas. We go to ask about the hot/room temperature ones, but they say that it doesn’t exist and that both options are the same. Nonetheless, the cold cocoa was good. On a second day, we asked for toasts again and this time we could only pick from an even smaller list of drinks (around 4 drink options), even though it was the same waitress as before. Terrible service, confusing menu and the cafe au lait also terrible. The bread and toast are good, but other cafes with better service have...
Read moreStumbled upon Vie de France in Kyoto Station while lost and returned specifically for the Apple & Cream Cheese bun – a delightful find! Explored other savory pastries like the Champignon and Cream and Crab tortilla, both delicious. The prices of the baked goods are comparable to popular convenience stores, but with better options. While I wouldn't recommend buying coffee here, the pastries and baked goods are definitely worth every penny. Unfortunately, the Cafe Au Lait left much to be desired; it tasted more like hot water. The noisy milk frothing process seemed to impact the quality, potentially...
