The worst place to visit in Nara. If you decide to drink coffee here you better go somewhere else. Service here is rude and unprofessional. They will be laughing at you and discuss you in front of you. We want to drink something and old lady told that we must buy 1 drink per person. Weird but ok. We ordered matcha and it was a pocket one (like a stick one) with tons of sugar. Just like syrup or worse.

We asked to change a drink because we were not warned that it has so many sugar and it was literally impossible to drink. Or just make a refund. They just kept saying that they can’t do anything. Old lady didn’t speak English so first we use a translator and then she called her coworker - Spanish cashier-girl from the first floor.

I asked them is it okay here to laughing at customers at their presence (They did it when we asked very politely about changing drink or making a refund). And they said “yes”. And they think it is normal. Spanish girl was very rude.

Also they told us that matcha doesn’t have a sugar at all! And they were laughing while looking at us. For some reason they denied to try it by themselves.

They even called a police. They said they can’t make them to make a refund. That it’s a rule of cafe (where it’s written no one told us). Just said them to apologize to us.

Employees are sure that here a lot of tourists so they can act however they want. Even if it means low quality of food and drinks. Japan has many awesome places and this is definitely not one of them. I’m pretty sure they should be closed because they don’t have rights to call themselves Japanese cafe. Because they ruined the whole image of Nara and Japanese service.

So if you are here just skip this place and warn your friends. P.S. Also they have bugs on kitchen and cafe area. We saw few of them while talking...

A good beaker’s restaurant that is open 7 o’clock early in the morning near Kintetsu Nara Station.

The second floor is an eat-in space, and although the interior is old, it has a calm and gentle atmosphere. For breakfast menu at upstair You can choose between a set with a sandwich or a set with two types of bread. I've been familiar with Nara for many years, but I only eat breakfast at hotels, so I don't know much about the surrounding town in the morning.

There are a few tourists, also some people are on their way to work.

Some tourists buy bread at the shop below, not knowing that they have breakfast menu in restaurant space.

If more tourists knew about it, it would be a chance to have them try Japan's very reasonable breakfast. 550 yen is abnormally cheap worldwide. Converted into dollars at 160 yen/$ today, it's about 3.4 dollars. Plus, you don't need to leave any tip at all.

For just $3.50, you can enjoy a sandwich filled with a luxurious mashed boiled egg with mayonnaise sauce and ham filling, sandwiched between soft square bread that Japan is proud of, and a cup of a bit bitter Americano-type coffee that goes perfectly with the taste of the egg in the sandwich.

It's reasonable, or should I say, a bargain price always. And it’s a kind of shop where you can have a memorable old city experience, served by a kind...

My husband and I walked past this cafe on a day trip to Nara, and everything looked so good that we had to stop by. We each grabbed a couple of baked goods and some drinks. When we got to the register, we were told that if we wanted to eat inside the cafe, we would each need to buy a drink upstairs. The cafe upstairs is very spacious but was extremely filthy. Almost every single table was taken up by dishes and trays that looked like they had not been cleared all day. I was surprised by this and that nobody was cleaning since the cafe was not busy at all, but it's possible they could have been short staffed. The sweet pastries were just okay and the savory pastries were not our preference. Our iced drinks from the cafe were warm and had one or two ice cubes. But to be honest, I couldn't get past the dirty atmosphere to enjoy any of the food or drinks. Given the variety of local restaurants and cafes in the area, I would advise skipping this one, or at least getting your food to go.
