Anne Marie Cafe — Restaurant in Nara

I had a rather disappointing experience at this café. I came with a couple of friends — I ordered coffee and dessert, but my friends had already eaten and didn’t feel like ordering anything. The owner insisted that everyone at the table must order something, and when my friends politely declined, she asked them to leave.

I ended up finishing my coffee alone, which felt very uncomfortable and honestly quite unnecessary. I understand that some places have rules, but the way the situation was handled felt surprisingly unwelcoming — especially in Japan, where hospitality is usually so thoughtful and kind.

Unfortunately, I won’t be coming back, and I would advise others to be aware of this policy. It left a rather strange impression, and in a way, felt almost discriminatory toward...

A wonderful assortment of teas & coffee! Anne Marie’s Cafe has such a peaceful vibe & great morning music. There are essentially two breakfast options in which you can’t go wrong. The scones are unbelievable. The staff is very sweet and attentive to English speaking guests. The presentation is so cute. They even put a little warming cover over you tea 🫖 and lowered the front windows shades because the sun was a little bright on my wife’s face ❤️ Thanks for a delightful start to our day before heading to Nara park to feed the deer 🦌!! ☕️ 🫖 🍳👌🏽 - highly recommend...

Fantastic cafe, near enough to Nara's major sites, but far enough to be a little empty and quiet when we dropped by after lunch. A very quaint little cafe, which proved to be an immensely welcome respite from the crowds.

Had the baked cheesecake, which came adorned with fresh fruits lovingly prepared by the wonderful, English-speaking staff.
