KAITEN SUSHI TOTOGIN, JAPAN
Short Summary - Kaiten Sushi Totogin is located only 25m from Kintetsu Nara train station which is a bonus as you are close to the station to catch your train out of Nara. We were intrigued as there was a long queue of people (not deers) outside the restaurant which normally sounds good, when we looked through the window it was hard to see from the outside but the conveyor belt was long, i mean the longest i've ever seen.
WHY did we choose these guys, well it was easy, we were craving Sushi, the sushi belt was LONG and we were ridiculously hungry after a long walk around Nara parks and temples.
Outside view - Taking a kind of hidden spot away from the main street with a smaller than usual restaurant front, however don't let that deceive you as the inside view will drop your jaw, unless your one of these humans that are blessed with “seen it and done it” glasses.
Inside view - As you enter the door you are met with the usual Japanese greetings with every member of staff saying hello and welcome. You are then taken to a seating area of your liking and given instructions to read before commencing to EAT which is great as it shows there is an etiquette to follow.
There is a very long conveyor belt, i mean its probably the longest ive ever seen and ive been to a few around the world and nothing beats this so far. With dozens of tiny stools to sit at the counter watching the staff prepare hundreds more sushi items for the belt as customers are whipping them off very fast to devour.
Menu - Very simple, sushi, lots of it, with varying options to eat it, (1) direct from the belt (2) set sushi sets from the menu (3) a mixture of both. There is a very large selection of sushi on offer, including the option of getting the sushi masters to prepare your own sushi according to your own liking which is a great option too if you know your sushi and japanese.
There is also a lot of condiments to choose from whilst eating your sushi, from normal soya sauce to citrus soya which was really tasty, including the best ever ginger we ate.
Drinks - Free water and green tea are on top as much as you want, including the normal beer, sake, and other drinking items.
Food - We went a little crazy and over our intended 2000 yen budget, however we were enjoying the sushi so much we couldn't stop picking them off the belt. We were telling each other to stop, but as the belt kept going around we were picking more and more.
The belt is pretty dangerous as you just sit there eating and eating not realising how many plates are stacking up on the side to be counted later to pay, but well worth the fun.
In general there are different levels of plates that are served on the sushi belt, cheap 100 yen to 500+ yen, everything depends on the quality of sushi offered. We tried a mixture of everything but the 300 yen sushi was absolutely delicious, making is pick more off the belt.
The thickness of the sushi was impressive with the option of having onion and mayo on top or just plain sushi.
Prices - Reasonable for the area as we saw some really expensive sites but you couldn't compare as we didn't see any other belt sushi. We spent over 3000 yen, which is the most we have spent on our Japan trip but well worth every yen.
Suitable for - Anyone that loves sushi should go and try, if your a sushi expert get the sushi chef to make it specially for you.
Staff - Great staff with lots of help getting to understand the initial instructions and etiquette of the place.
Parking - No idea, probably in pay as you go places.
Top Tip - Try the original 560 yen bbq fish.
Recommendation Go and enjoy some lovely sushi, dont get me wrong you cannot compare to a dedicated sushi bar but this place is pretty good for the amount of sushi they are preparing for customers coming and going like the wind.
Well worth eating some tasty sushi.

Read moreWe visited this place a few days ago, and I can confidently say it was the best sushi I’ve ever had. The quality and portion of the fish were truly impressive—generous and beautifully prepared. The staff were warm and welcoming, and having the chance to watch the chefs prepare our sushi added an authentic and engaging touch to the experience.
While it’s not the cheapest option, the quality absolutely justifies the price. In fact, we ended up paying less than what we’re used to in Sydney or what we paid in Kyoto and the sushi here was significantly better. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates top-notch sushi and a genuine...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised by this little sushi shop. We walked in with minimal expectations, since the place doesn't really stand out, the doorway just says "fish sushi", and the insides are not anyhow flashily decorated, but it was so nice once we got in! The staff immediately helped us on how the place works (either take from conveyor belt or order from menu, they count end price by the plates you accumulated), and man was the sushi good! We ended up eating much more than planned and even tested some shochu, about which we were laughing together with the staff, since it was maybe around noon 😅
All in all,...
