Absolutely delicious eel! Cant say enough about this place! They have many grilled eel meal options, and a few options without eel, but it is an eel is their speciality (the others include some sashimi and some tempura - the tempura is really really good as well). Eel boxes ranged from 35-55¥, the smaller boxes were around ¥25. Very authentic and traditional restaurant, from taking shoes off when entering the restaurant, providing shoes for when walking the halls and even a “bathroom pair” (which our kids were really excited about for some reason, haha!). We went for lunch and didn't have to wait (there is also a queue list). They were very accommodating and had English menus, the waitress did a great job explaining the menu, the meal and traditions.

Strolling around Nara at 7 p.m., there weren’t many restaurants open for dinner. Believing there must be a place that was open, we finally found Edogawa-Naramchi. Our first impression, as we stood in front of the store and looked at the menu under the rain, was like finding water in an oasis. Without hesitation, we entered the restaurant. The unagi was amazing, the tempura incredibly light and not too oily, and the sukiyaki was a perfect combination of broth, sweetness, tender beef, and vegetables. The price made sense given the menu and the ambiance. We enjoyed a serene and mindful dining experience with Japanese music playing in the background.

Excellent food and excellent service!! They have an English menu and English speaking staff, and I suspect a Chinese /Korean menu as well seeing that many tourists come by here. It's right at the end of the shopping street in Nara. There's likely to be a queue and come early to avoid the queue. They have a waiting list so you could leave your name and return later as well. I actually forgot my phone at the restaurant, and had to turn back to hopefully get it back. The staff told me that one of their waitress chased after me, and she will be returning shortly! It's service that truly goes out of the way here.
