This was a wonderfully simple but elegant experience. I ate lunch with 3 friends. 2 of them ordered the quiche/salad appetizer and raved about both the aroma and flavor of the quiche. The salad was fresh with very well picked, sweet cherry tomatoes. My vegan friend, who had called ahead, received an altered salad with more greens, same sweet tomatoes, and some lovely pear-like fruit. I ordered the chicken vegetable terrine and an amazing dill flavor came through a lemony base. One friend and I ordered the sea bass that was nicely grilled with a white cream sauce that didn't overpower the fish. Another ordered the chicken that had a slightly spicy red wine reduction, not overly buttery but enough thickness to coat the chicken well. Vegan friend received a meatless cassoulet that had a sauce that almost smelled like the best bolognese. Vegan friend and I also shared a half carafe of the house white wine that paired well with both the fish and the cassoulet. For dessert, my quiche friends had the Mont Blanc, which I tasted: lovely! I had the creme caramel with a small scoop of ice cream, which hit all the right notes, just the perfect level of sweet, not treacly. Vegan friend received a bowl of fruit: grapefruit, kiwi, and a soft pear with edible flowers in a peach reduction. He raved about the quality of the produce. It was clear the chef/staff put a lot of thought into both the sourcing and preparation of the products. 2 of us had the coffee, among the best we've had in Osaka, while the other 2 had the tea, which was a ceylon base with hints of lavender and other floral notes. The meal was very French: the staff took their time, so our meal stretched out for 2 hours. Impeccable, attentive, but not overly interruptive service. It isn't the best French meal I've eaten, but it is among the most fun I've experienced.

I should say that we paid between 2700 and 3100 yen (depending who ordered wine and other drinks) each, so between $18-$23 USD. That's less than what I often have to pay for McDonalds in the US for my family of 4. One of the best deals in the world for a...

Small, modest French restaurant tucked away in the side streets of Shinsaibashi/Namba. For the price and location, I think this wasn’t bad - you can definitely get better tasting French food but the price tag would be a little higher. The lunch set includes appetizer, tea and dessert with the main (chicken/fish/pork or beef with extra charge). I don’t think there’s a lot of choices to pick anything besides the course menu though, but I enjoyed the soup, and the chicken. It was interesting and tasted good, although the sauce on the chicken was slightly too sour for me. The dessert (creme caramel and Mont Blanc) was also quite good. The service was fine, everyone was courteous. However it is a very small basement shop, so you have to walk down stairs (not accessible), and also the tables are extremely close together (not a great feeling of privacy). However, I would still revisit again! Worth...

Just wanted to share a fantastic French restaurant in Osaka's Namba Shinsaibashi that's absolutely mouthwatering! [nom][nom][nom] This is my second trip to Japan #OsakaTravel##OsakaTravel##Shinsaibashi##Dotonbori# It's called ビストロ・ダ・アンジュ, and you can find it on Google Maps as Bistrot d' Anjou. It was a huge surprise for me! [lust][lust][lust] Especially after eating at places like Kani Douraku (which has really gone downhill) and Kyoto's Michelin 3-star Kikunoi (which was just meh), this place felt like a breath of fresh air. [thumbsup] I originally planned to stick to Japanese cuisine this time, but my friend Manabe-san strongly recommended this spot, saying it's rarely visited by tourists, yet it's just 200 meters from the Glico sign in Shinsaibashi. It's also close to our hotel, so after a day at Universal Studios Japan, we rushed over and made it by 9:30 for the last order. We each ordered a set menu, which was quite affordable at 3500-4000 yen (about ¥200 RMB per person). The restaurant has a retro, niche vibe, with walls covered in menus from various French Michelin-starred restaurants, showing the owner's deep knowledge of French cuisine. The first two appetizers were delightful—I couldn't understand the server's explanation, but the cheese tofu was smooth, and the melon jelly was refreshing. I also had melon with ham, which was a huge surprise since I hadn't had such delicious ham since returning from Spain. The melon had a unique Japanese sweetness. Another standout was the creamy corn cold soup—it looked ordinary, but it was like something out of a Japanese anime, with stars in my eyes. The main courses, duck and fish, were as expected—juicy and tender, with crispy skin and soft flesh. I loved the sauces. Lastly, the after-dinner tea was exceptional; it had a fragrant almond flavor, refreshing yet rich. [cute] After leaving, my boyfriend just said, "They really put their heart into their French cuisine." [cute] Personally, I think it's way better than the overpriced set menus at places like Wang Steak, M'U Teppanyaki, and Paris Rouge in China. Even though it's not on Dazhongdianping, I highly recommend it to any little fairies visiting Osaka's Shinsaibashi area. [shy][shy] Skip Kani Douraku, haha.
