I've been a fan of Final Fantasy games for more than 30 years. I've played them all and I might be one of the biggest defenders of the series on this planet.
There's a difference, though, between the fans that will be happy no matter what you present them and the fans who know, want, and expect better from the franchises they love. Many of the reviews you can read here are the former. I'm the latter.
You can then imagine my level of disappointment upon actually coming to my first FF themed cafe and seeing how run-down and depressing it looked. The theming, which is the most important reason for having a themed cafe in the first place, was shoddy and uninspired at best. The food itself was mediocre and I couldn't make any connection with any of the dishes with the series. The merchandise was limited and lacked any character. Above all, it just seemed like whoever is running it simply doesn't care anymore.
I understand that the game has been around for a long time and perhaps interest has generally waned. But a new expansion is here! You don't even have any event for it? No marketing push? No new products? No fresh coat of paint at least?
The only bright spot I could see was the staff and their effort level. Despite the limited material they had to work with, they were full of enthusiasm and did their best to generate buzz in the dreary dining room. The additional star is just for them. Maybe the drinks were kind of okay too.
Whoever is running this, either close the place down or invest in it properly. I just came from the pokemon cafe a few blocks away and that place blows this one out of the water. They actually...
Read moreI’m a foreigner who visited this location each evening for 4 days after touring the Osaka+Kyoto area during the day. I really love FF14 so I visited Eorzea Cafe as much as I could.
The Akihibara location is nice, however, I really LOVED this location so much. The community feel of the Marketboard Art Wall was beautiful. All the merchandise is labeled by cute hand-drawn artwork, some in English! Even the napkins have hand-drawn artwork on them. I assume the staff members put in all this extra work to provide an even more immersive experience, and I appreciate all the staff members at this location. I will miss the passion from the staff members and how they performed the gold saucer events!
The food and drinks were also very good. Of course, there are tons of offerings from Dotonbori, but the food here is delicious and great for any FF14 fan! I tried almost everything on the menu, except items that were sold out. I was able to get the Job Stone Tablet which requires 50 items ordered as well! A bit crazy, but worth it to me as a foreign traveler!
I want to thank the staff again for the best experience I’ve had in Japan. I visited various places like Akihibara, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Kyoto, Yokohama, and more during my time in this country but Eorzea Cafe in Osaka was my most favorite memory. I wish all the staff members a bright and prosperous future. To the staff I say, “Forge ahead, May all your tomorrows be blessed with joy.”...

Made a reservation for two at 10:45am. Only two other tables were occupied at the time, so the place was rather quiet when we dined. At 11am, they held started playing the Golden Saucer theme and it was raffle time! All three tables won an item, we got 2nd prize~
I got the Thavnarian salmon dish, the Warrior drink, the Alchemist roulette drink, and the rainbow Puddingway parfait. While the food is gorgeous and is prepared with care, the taste is fine. Not really stellar, but also not lacking. That said, I do recommend the drinks! All of them are fun and quite yummy. Their menu also changes depending on the season and the game updates, so keep an eye on their special menu before dining~ Also, each table gets a maximum stay of 1.5 hours, and your last order needs to be placed at the 1-hour mark. That said, we were lucky to avoid lunch rush since people poured in around 12nn.
Don't forget to leave a message on the board and buy merch before leaving! They will also give you a stamp card upon checkout. One stamp equals to one food or drink item order. You can redeem a city-state enamel pin (pictured) at 17 stamps, and a job tablet at 50.
Happy dining,...
