Whilst my partner checked us in, I stood beside him and smiled, trying to make eye contact with the girl who was checking us in. This staff member didn’t acknowledge me and only acknowledged my partner. A simple hello, smile and nod would have been well received. I was turned off and walked away and left my partner to deal with it.
Overall, the staff here had an air of quiet arrogance about them and a sense of self superiority. There was only one really lovely lady team member who helped us change our room.
The first room we were given had hairs in the bathtub. My partner found nail clipping cuttings on the floor when he nudged the bed to the side to make room. There were used tissues on the floor, which were clearly not discarded.
Safe to say, my partner called front desk reception and a lovely lady came up within 15 minutes to help show us an alternate room a few doors down.
The layout to the 2nd room suited us more, as everything was flipped so it felt as though the room had better flow and energy through it. This hotel room is also 18sqm, same as our first hotel.
We collected all our belongings from the first room and moved over.
The room had 2 beds which we pushed next to each other. It had a small couch by the window, a small fridge, and a small desk. The bathroom was small and clean. The bedroom in this hotel is approx the same size as the hotel we stayed at in Tokyo however, the bathroom is smaller so the room was larger. We had 2 carry on luggage’s and 2 20kilo luggage’s to pack.
Throughout the day, I’d leave the window open and we can hear what sounds like a screeching, crying baby and or cat meowing constantly. This was annoying. By the 3rd morning, I was getting used to it but it was still annoying to hear. We also heard many, many police or ambulance sirens throughout our whole stay here which was 4 nights and 5 days. We generally left the hotel at 8am and returned only to drop things off and get ready for dinner again at night so we didn’t stay in much at all, just to sleep and get ready.
There are convenience stores, train station and restaurants all within walking distance which is great.
The hotel had a section at the front where you can hire a locker for 100 yen.
We also used the hotel luggage transfer from our hotel in Tokyo to here, and the luggage made it here safely a day after our arrival.
On our last day, I arranged to have late check out at 2pm. We just had to pay additional hourly fees which was fine as it suited our needs.
The 4 lifts were extremely slow. On one morning, we waited over 13 mins for one lift to get there and when it arrived, it was too full for us to get on so we had to wait for another lift. It was no doubt the longest time I have ever waited for a lift in my life by farrrrrr. When my partner told the staff, they were dismissive and said there were 4 lift operating. We experienced more lift delays each night when we came back but were thankful the 10 mins plus wait time only happened twice.
Overall, I would try the other Candeo hotel and or a different hotel next time I’m back in Osaka.
Considering we paid $450 per night, the service...
Read moreThis hotel really disappoints except the breakfast. I have never been so extreme in my review but this place, do avoid!
Been to Japan more than 15 times, this is by far the worse hotel! Look in picture but lack in Japanese standard! If you understand how Japanese does their business by treating their guest, you will understand my experience!
if you think you could get a REAL japanese service from this hotel, think again! I don’t even see much Japanese staying in this hotel over the last 4 days, is telling...
Below is my account for my 4 night stay:
Checking in was fast. But I needed to store my luggage as I was early by 2 hours and decided to walk around Namba area.
The staff ( Chinese girl with pink eye blushes at the side of the eyes) asked how many luggage I wanted to store, I said 3. Then before I could handover, she started to register other guest! Wow wow wow! This is NOT Japanese standard! So after a while I wanted to go back to her but she was busy! So after she was done with the guest, I told her I have got 3 pieces of bags to store.
She then asked me “if I have an reservation?!!” And she repeated this for a few times when I explained that I just checked in! And she said this so loudly that other guest turned their heads! It was an embarrassment!
Have a hotel reception ever forget you when minutes again you just checked in??!! Is this even a Japanese standard to receive the guest and embarrassed them?!
After coming back and wanting to check in, the reception again asked me if I can show my passport for their copying?! Like hello!! I just checked in, don’t you have a record?! Then they asked if they could scan again! I told them I had checked in... do they forget who they checked in?
The staffs at the counter are managed by mostly non Japanese. They have Korea and mostly Chinese staffs, who seems to be undergoing training since their response and service is different from real Japanese hotel. So the hotel caters to a lot of tour groups which makes the place VERY BUSY!
Due to the large number of tour groups, the Onsen place is really messy with people: not showering before entering the pool splashing water onto you when they shower speaking very loudly messing up the chairs at the individual cubicle and all over the walk way that you have no place to walk. children playing water in the Onsen like running around!
These are by far what I saw when was there! This is how a Japanese hotel is?! If you to travel to Japan for the first time, you will be disappointed thinking is this a Japanese standard hotel?!
The breakfast was good, selection was large and the food is tasty! But due to the large number of non Japanese tour group, the breakfast area soon became a market place with noise and all sorts of snatching!
I would avoid this hotel! Having been to hundereds of hotel all over in Japan, this hotel doesn’t cater to Japanese, more for tour groups, hence you will expect a low in...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel for 2 days in June 2025 and this was unfortunately the most disappointing accommodation of our entire vacation. Starting with the positives:
The hotel is located very close to Dotonbori so if you want to stay near that part of Osaka I think this is a good option. The staff was amazing. They held all of our luggage for us before check in so that we could explore the town. They also moved all of our laundry over and gave us a free wash whenever the washer we were using broke mid-use. Overall, Candeo had some of the best customer service. The top floor lounge offered a very nice view of the city and I liked the ice cream vending machine lol.
The cons: The room left a lot to be desired. The sofa bed was hard and not the most comfortable. There was stains on the carpet. The room was a little cramped and overall a little outdated compared to other places we stayed. The Sky Spa was very disappointing. Candeo was technically out of our budget but I splurged just to use the advertised spa. I was excited to be able to see the skyline while using the open air spa. To my dismay, there is no view of the outside when using the spa. There are 2 onsen, one indoor and one outdoor, but neither offered a view due to the fogged windows. I understand that the fogging is to protect people’s privacy but it is false adverting to show pictures of the spa like you can see the outside while using it (I thought it was a type of glass where you can see out but not in). Also, the hotel was very crowded. There was a minimum of 20 people in the onsen at a time, so it was not a “relaxing” experience so to speak. Once I got over the disappointment of the view and number of guests, I did enjoy the onsen. I like that the outdoor one was less hot than the indoor one so that you could choose your temperature and I also liked that there was plenty of lockers and showers for everyone. Plus, Candeo is tattoo friendly so I was able to actually use the amenities! The hotel is pretty far from the nearest train station compared to other options (10 minutes maybe?). Overall, not the most convenient. I honestly preferred staying near Hep 5 and that part of Osaka more than staying near Dotonbori just because of the convenience and also the fact that Dotonbori is a lot dirtier/smellier than other parts of Osaka.
Overall, Candeo is not worth the money in my opinion. Is it an awful hotel? No, but for my needs I was disappointed and do not see myself...
