Good coffee, but horrible customer service, as many other people have pointed out. We checked to see if there was room to sit inside and were told to wait 10-15 minutes. (We were able to see that some of the customers inside were done with their drinks and just on their phones—this will become relevant later.) We left and came back after about 20 minutes, at which point there was some space available. However, after getting our drinks, we were asked by the main guy to grab our stuff and move over to a different table to make room for other customers. Personally, this has never happened to me, and it’s a huge inconvenience that detracts from the experience, but the part that’s absurd is disturbing patrons who just sat down while letting people stay unlimited amounts of time after finishing their drinks while swatting customers away that would want to make a purchase. To top it off, the manner in which this was relayed to us was not apologetic or respectful in the least either. Unprofessional, rude, and shows zero customer-facing manners. To add to the list of negatives: the tables are tiny and uncomfortable, the service is slow, and the place is really hot. The owner will probably offer a half-assed, inauthentic response to this review, but it’s obvious he’s not interested in making things better, since negative reviews have been complaining about this for a long time. Don’t support businesses and...
Read moreI visited this café with a friend to enjoy some coffee, and while the coffee and sweets were enjoyable, the service was absolutely unacceptable.
The staff member was unwelcoming and immediately started imposing rules based on unfounded assumptions. He loudly asserted that there was a one-drink-per-customer policy, all before we even had a chance to review the menu. This aggressive approach is completely unnecessary and unwarranted.
It’s unfortunate because the quality of the coffee and sweets is good, but the staff desperately needs customer service training. If they continue to treat customers this way, they will undoubtedly drive people away. We felt inconvenienced rather than valued customers, so we will not be returning...
Read moreWe stumbled on Hicaru while looking for coffee shops during our stay in Osaka. We saw the photos and immediately knew we had to try - it’s in a more quiet residential neighborhood with a walk-up takeout window in addition to about 5 inside tables for couples/small groups.
We loved the coffee so much we ordered another to try - the ginger latte, blood orange espresso, and hot latte were all incredible. The owner was so friendly and answered our questions about his shop. You can tell they take so much pride in what they do and serve excellent coffee and desserts/pastries. The basque cheesecake was the best we’ve had.
If you’re in Osaka, I highly recommend taking a trip here. It’s one of our favorite coffee shops we’ve...
