Honto Sushi Kaiba — Restaurant in Osaka

Very good quality sashimi and sushi with very pretty/handsome presentation. Despite the glowing reviews from the mostly (white/Euro/Euro American) reviewers on Google, my party of 4 (ASIANAmerican) found the hospitality (save for the generally pleasant female server) noticeably cold (and at times slightly harsh). Upon being the FIRST to arrive at an empty lunchtime restaurant, I asked if we could sit at the sushi bar but was told repeatedly, "no" (via body language as I do not speak Japanese). If it's standard etiquette for parties of 2 or more to be refused sushi bar service then fair point. But as it was a completely empty restaurant when we arrived and later other LOCALS came and WERE able to sit at the same sushi bar I asked about--it couldn't help but leave a bad taste in my mouth whether this was some subtle form of discrimination. Outside of that, the sushi chefs themselves were rather subdued--not quite cold but certainly doing little to brighten the mood (despite the "glowing" reviews of such behavior on the part of the OTHER reviewers on for this restaurant). A great ala carte sushi and Japanese tapas restaurant. They have a very chic feel with good decor and a modern look. The kitchen is open allowing you to watch your dishes get prepared. There are English menus. Staff are friendly and helpful. They accept credit card. Parking is not readily available except from nearby street parking but they are a quick walk from transit. The food is delicious with the various sashimi topping the charts. Everything is well prepared though and we didn't have complaints from any...
