Robatayaki Isaribi is a traditional robata yaki izakaya located at a basement in Umeda. It is a restaurant with a marvelous selection of fresh seafood and meat and an open grilled station.
If you are seated around the robata grill, then you will feel like entering a seafood n meat lala dreamland. You can choose from an incredible selection of fresh meat, seafood and vegetables nestled on ice right in front of you. A mind blowing visual experience. Also one feels like seating in front of a sushi bar and ordering what you want. At Isaribi you can do food pointing instead of food calling😋Once you choose your preferred food, the skilled chef will grill your chosen food at the grill and serve to you on a long wooden paddle. It is a fun and unique way of enjoying grilled food at Isaribi. The restaurant has a chillout and fantastic vibe and is filled with mostly Japanese patrons. Most dishes are around 300 Yen. Also you can either select your food from the counter or order from an English menu.
We ordered grilled squid which was perfectly grilled and juicy that we ordered it again. The grilled fish, grilled scallop, buttered potatoes, grilled mushrooms……are all must-order food. We ordered 4 grilled onigiri as an ending dish for the night. But what we did not realize was that each order consists of 2 big onigiri, and the chef kindly double checked with us that we will have a total of 8 big onigiri. So we confirmed that we will have 2 orders instead of 4! Like to point out this cause I am impressed that the chef is very attentive to patrons orders.
Recommend to make reservation prior cause this place is popular. For those who like to experience local authentic atmosphere and fresh food must try this restaurant when visiting...

“It was my first time trusting his recommendation — and definitely the last.”
I tried this place after watching a video by Tommy, a popular YouTuber from Osaka who’s well-known among Taiwanese viewers and has been a bridge between Taiwan and Japan travel culture. He called this the ultimate izakaya experience. So I believed him — deeply. Booked a month in advance. Chose the 5000-yen all-you-can-drink plan. And what I got… was a spectacular trust disaster.
We arrived early. The restaurant was quiet — too quiet. Maybe it gets crowded later, but honestly, I’ve never seen it full, not even close. The counter seats were completely empty, and the food sitting out front didn’t look like it had much to say.
As for the food? Let’s just say: freshness wasn’t the issue. But when grilled wings turned into sandpaper, fish heads dried into fossils, and every dish tasted like soy sauce plus mayo on repeat — you know you’re in trouble. Tommy gave this place a glowing sticker. I gave it a full-blown trust bankruptcy.
The most memorable thing wasn’t the food — it was the attitude. We left some dishes. Not because we were full, but because they were… inedible. A waitress coldly reminded us: “300 yen per plate for leftovers.” Not rude, but absolutely devoid of warmth. It took a male staff asking the manager to finally waive the penalty. That’s when I realized — hospitality isn’t about rules. It’s about people.
Still, I’ll take it as part of the experience. Good or bad, it’s all part of life, and at least this one gave me something to laugh about with my friends.
If you still want to visit: 👉 Sit at the counter. 👉 Skip the all-you-can-eat plan. 👉 Just enjoy a drink and try a few items — chicken wings, beef tendon, stingray fin, salmon belly, fish head. And above all, bring your sense of humor.
Even someone like me, who’s tasted countless fine dining kitchens — Michelin, Black Pearl, Asia’s Top 50 — can still walk away from here with a story worth telling. Sometimes the worst meals make the best memories.

Read moreThis was the worst experience in Japan ever. As soon as we entered the air was very suffocating and it was very hot. We were not told about the sitting fee and on the menu it says they charge 300 Yen for the appetizer they serve. This actually means they charge 300 Yen for each person that sits down. The order form is very confusing to understand as they do not follow the numbers on the menu and seem to have their own system of writing. They are not organized and are unable to keep track of what dishes they have served and what has not yet been served. I suggest you go somewhere else. There is much better food in Japan at even lower price points to feel full. The food took forever and was mediocre. They make each person order a drink but unless you order a draft beer it is just a cup of ice with a little liquid.
Their way of keeping track makes it impossible for foreigners to track what they write down on the bill. They overcharged us and when we tried to speak with the lady at the counter she kept refusing to speak to us. We used Google Translate to speak to her and she began yelling. Multiple employees had to come over. The situation did not resolve until another employee took over. If you still decide to go, avoid the yelling lady...
