I just went to a head spa in Osaka called KUU…something I probably wouldn’t have done on my own, but my sister and I have been trying to do something unique and relaxing in each city we visit. This one focused on scalp health, which sounds niche, but honestly, it was amazing.
It started off with me trying to explain what was ‘wrong’ with my scalp which, to be fair, I had no idea. After I was taken to a treatment room my therapist, Nakano, greeted me. She spoke some English, but she had clearly thought everything through. Her device had pre-written questions and explanations in English, making the whole process really easy. I always knew what was happening and what I needed to do…perfect. Especially in a relaxing setting where you want to switch off.
Before the treatment started, I changed, was offered a refreshment, then had my scalp analysed…which confirmed it’s quite dry (not shocking), but I also learned a few new things… like apparently I should be using a hairdryer!
Then came 90 solid minutes of bliss. It kicked off with a brief but heavenly milk foot massage, just enough to melt me a little, then moved into shoulder, neck, and scalp work before diving into the full head treatment. We’re talking every kind of wash and serum you can imagine: shampoo, scalp treatment, moisturiser, oil…a veritable onslaught of relaxation. At some point, I fully passed out and only woke up feeling like I’d been in some kind of bear-level hibernation. Stunning.
Nakano set up the powder room with everything I needed to fix my own hair along with a cup of tea to close the experience off.
Honestly, this isn’t something I would have put on a must-do list, usually I’d go straight for a massage, but I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone wanting something both deeply relaxing and genuinely different. The head/scalp doesn’t usually get this kind of attention, and now I’m wondering why. It’s not quite a hairdresser, not quite a massage…it’s something else entirely, and I’m really...
Read moreI managed to make a reservation like 4 days in advance at the time I wanted to come on a Saturday afternoon, through Hot Pepper (on the website of Kuu, which was available in EN too, I didn't see any availability). That website was fully in Japanese but somehow I managed using AI to translate everything and get my reservation done. After confirmation of the Head Spa, you get an email and they ask you to pay upfront. 24000 yen for the 2hours treatment. I was happy to be received despite arriving just 3min before my appointment (they clearly stated that it can be cancelled if you're late). I was very well received and was immeditately attended. We did lose quite some time using the translator apps, but it wasn't counted in the 2h of my treatment, as my appointment was at 16h30 and left around 19h00. The room was super fancy, so clean and amazing experience. Treatment was excellent. The scalp analysis was somewhat mediocre perhaps, as it was concluded quite quick. Nonetheless it was clear beforehand that they're not using any high tec machines for the analysis. The 'book' they show you with the procedure is in EN and very clear. You can buy the products they've used for your hair. They're quite expensive but a nice souvenir for this experience I think. I was told to use the shampoo daily as my hair is oily. But I think you can decide for your own. Where I live, our water quality is not good, so it wouldn't be an option. Having told her that, she advised me accordingly which products to purchase. Lastly, it can feel a bit stressful that you can only use the powder room for 15min after the treatment as I don't like to rush. But it didn't feel too much like rushing, as all staff was so polite...
Read moreI had the 120-minute treatment at this head spa and overall, it was a lovely and relaxing experience. The space is absolutely beautiful—calm, luxurious, and thoughtfully designed. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape to unwind and be pampered, this definitely delivers on that front.
The treatment itself was enjoyable, but it’s worth noting that the 120 minutes includes time to get changed and ready, so the actual hands-on treatment is a bit shorter than expected. While the staff did explain the steps of the treatment, it didn’t feel very personalised. Despite completing a scalp and hair questionnaire, it seemed like everyone receives the same products, rather than a customised approach as advertised. I do have a sensitive scalp and felt a bit itchy afterward, so some differentiation in product selection would have been appreciated.
After the treatment, your hair is blow-dried, and you’re offered a straightener and curler to style it yourself. It’s not a major issue, but given the premium price, it would’ve been nice if that part was also included.
Overall, it was a very calming and enjoyable experience. I would absolutely recommend it for those wanting a luxurious head spa and massage. If you’re after a truly tailored scalp treatment or analysis, it may not fully meet expectations—but as a relaxation experience, it’s definitely...
