RAMEN KIOU, DOUTONBORI, OSAKA, JAPAN (Kyushu Ramen Kio Dotonbori)
Short Summary - Ramen Kiou stood out from the crowd of hundreds or maybe thousands of places to eat around the Donotbori area, 2 hours later we were on their doorstep waiting to enter.
WHY did we choose these guys, well it was all down to the smell as each and every eatery in the area looks amazing from the outside and inside, however few offer the sense of smell to attract customers, most use presentation only. Hence the reason we stopped at Ramen Kiou to eat.
Outside view - Taking a corner spot just off the main Dotonabori street giving some much needed respite from the hoards of people walking in every direction trying to find the same as you. Ramen Kiou is quite noticeable with the traditional Noren hanging from the outside with lots of Japanese hand drawn signs hanging from the roof.
Inside view - As you enter you will be greeted by every member of staff and be shown to an area of your liking. We sat at the front as we enjoy watching staff prepare the food for customers, quite amazing really. There is space for at least 12 to 16 people, some at the front bar and others to the side. They also have a small toilet, typical Japanese one that has so many buttons you feel like your in a NASA space capsule.
Menu - Everything is Ramen based with some appetisers to choose from, they also have a tomato based Ramen option which we thought was ingenious as we haven't seen this one before. Pork is the theme with varying options of the amount of pork you can eat but remember the portion sizes are very generous.
Drinks - You are given water as you sit down for your meal and have the option to drink anything else from beer to sake.
Food - We ordered 2 varieties of Ramen, one being the old style version and the other Soya Ramen version including rice, egg, salmon dish which i don't remember the name.
All of the food was just YUMMY and we could have eaten another bowl of each if we weren't so full. 10/10 for giving us a memorable occasion of great Ramen eating in Osaka.
Prices - Reasonable for the area but slightly cheaper than rival competition.
Suitable for - Anyone that loves meat based Ramen, not suitable for vegans or vegetarians.
Staff - Were fantastic, meeting the manager and the staff who spoke great English especially An, thank you all for being wonderful hosts and explaining what 26:00 hours is ;-)
Additional information - This is a great place to unwind from the streets and enjoy great food, good conversation and let the legs relax before attacking the streets again. Take a front seat to watch the staff do amazing things preparing your food.
Parking - No idea, probably in pay as you go places. Top Tip - Try the original Ramen, very brothy and tasty.
Recommendation Go, Go and Go again if your in the area, put it on your bucket list and enjoy some authentic Ramen made be some lovely locals in a back street off the main Dotonbori street.

The ramen at Kyushu Ramen Kio Dotombori is some of the best in Osaka. The broth is rich and flavorful, and the noodles are perfectly cooked. The toppings are also fresh and delicious. The restaurant is also very affordable, making it a great option for budget-minded travelers.
We tried #4 and #7 Ramen and while both were delicious #7 had a much richer broth taste. The spice level (level 2) was spot on. The pork is so tender it melts in your mouth. Don't let the four and five piece options scare you off as they are thinly sliced.
The service at Kyushu Ramen Kio Dotombori is friendly and efficient and they speak English very well. The staff are always happy to help you choose the perfect ramen for your taste. The restaurant is also clean and well-maintained.
Overall, Kyushu Ramen Kio Dotombori is a great option for anyone looking for the best authentic Kyushu-style ramen in Osaka. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone...
Read morePassed by this ramen place multiple times throughout our stay, and without fail, there was always a line out the door. Curious, I tried it on my last night in Osaka. I’m really glad I did! I got the red original charsiu ramen (as it says on the English menu) and the level 1 spice was just enough for a little kick. The broth was rich but not too heavy, and noodles had a good enough bite at a good portion size. But the pork really took the cake! Sooo delicate, smoky, and perfectly fatty. Added a ramen egg too and that was definitely a necessary addition to my meal :)
I wanna commend the service also. Don’t get me wrong, I had to wait 30 mins to be seated as most people who wish to dine here do. But the moment you get seated, the experience is seamless. The chef was also friendly and even tried to make me laugh, and the staff manning the cashier spoke good english and was very friendly! They even allowed me to take my ramen to-go— which a lot of spots don’t allow I believe?— because I wanted to share it to my family (and I was too full to finish it).
I wish I could go back to try the tomato ramen 😭🙏 It looked so interesting but I was too intimidated to try. Oh well, til we meet again...
