This retail chain restaurant serves mainly: a)various soup noodles combinations, and b)all sorts of meat or vegetables tempura. If you like eating tempura, you must try this restaurant or branch whenever you see the same sign or brand.
A shrimp tempura is probably the most well known tempura. Here you basically coat fresh shrimps with batter and this batter is usually made from very light shifted flour, and perhaps cornstarch, salt, pepper etc.. Anyway the tempura is then fried and left to cool before the customers here at this restaurant help themselves to as many pieces as they want.
The tray with your own selection of tempura is later joined with your selection or order of soup with noodles. Noodles, of course there are differing kinds and various types of udon to choose from. The layout is a bit like a traditional canteen as you slide your tray towards the cashier end, where you pay for your selection of food altogether.
This is a self-service restaurant so prices are quite inexpensive or reasonable , at least I discovered that, and you will see many locals also enjoying the same food here at this restaurant. There are obviously much more expensive places to go to where the chef actually brings you the tempura he has just finished cooking specially for you but that's totally different price range.
The special for this month is fresh oysters in your soup noodles instead of roast pork barbecue meat. Try to order the special which is usually something which is in season. The tempura was also fresh at this restaurant, well worth the...
Read moreThis restaurant is alright. There is basically no wait time and the tempura is very fresh. U can pick anything u like and really customize your udon. There are even takeout options with udon in a cup that looked really good. U can also get tempura to go. The food was decent and everything was very quick. My only complaint is that it's very dirty. The table we wanted to sit on had spilled water and some toppings from the udon on the table. We asked the staff to clean it, which they did, but then she left the table right next to us dirty. There were tempura flakes everywhere and it really makes me think: if they don't clean what customers CAN see... What about the many things that we can't? Makes me feel like this restaurant and staff are...
Read moreVery quintessential Udon experience. Structured like a factory line. Order your noodle/broth/toppings at the start. Move along down the line and pick up any tempura you wish. Move along and pay at the register.
I ordered a cold pork Shabu broth. Light yet flavourful broth. Great for the Japanese summer. Very chewy noodles (which I like). Tempura has been sitting there a while so was a little soft and soggy.
The cash register lady motioned to a gentleman in the kitchen who helped carry my tray to our table - a much appreciated gesture as I had an infant in a pram. Seating is crammed but...
