As a seasoned barcade hopper I was immediately disappointed. Lemme start by saying the entrance was very enticing, nice way to hype up incoming guests. However once up to the last step I was met by stiff air and a crowded spot. A kind gentleman (which I assume is the owner) showed us a smile and welcomed us to the bar to pick up drinks and play away. I felt optimistic by this warm gesture. However it was instantly shattered by the bar tender; she on the other hand was cold.
The energy was completely vacuumed from the upcoming interaction with her. Initially I was going to turn away when first entering but decided to give it a chance. My friend and I asked to share one drink (as my buddy is sensitive to pops and alcohol, yet still wanted to tag along for the experience). My mistake of course, since I had forgotten we both needed a drink in order to have entry / play. However she wasn’t so kind to redirect us to that rule, and shook her head and firmly said “you have to each buy” in such a rough tone. No “sorry you can’t” — it was more like a demand. Off to a bad note. I eyeballed the menu which was difficult to see, especially since the place was packed I was careful with my footing. I leaned in and directly asked if any of the mixes could be made virgin / non alcoholic. Yet again no “sorry you can’t” but instead she immediately pointed to the Pops and bluntly said “non alcoholic here”. At this point I felt like she was annoyed. Most if not all bars I go to have virgin mixed drinks, so I found it rather disappointing that it wasn’t offered.
I asked for the same drink again and took the pamphlet menu nearby after she served (just to move a step away from the bar’s service area so other customers could order without us blocking). I flipped open the pamphlet to see what other speciality drinks and potentially food I missed for my next order. Noticing the page was greasy and worn, I returned it and grabbed one from the back and stepped aside to hold onto it before enjoying my drink. Suddenly the bar tender barked at me saying “you can’t take that”. Puzzled I said back “I’m just looking at the menu”.
That really broke the vibe for me. I felt accused and offended. I wasn’t even walking away from the bar, I stood right beside the serving area. I guess since I grabbed a cleaner one it gave her the impression I was picking up a paper prize? I was simply holding onto it to check out a future drink, obviously it’s not to take as there’s only 3-4 menus in the container.
If it’s such a huge concern for theft maybe put a sign, but I was simply holding it in my hand and occasionally reading through it. Some advice; laminate them if it’s a common issue. Also makes for easier sanitation. Overall unpleasant and uncalled for, we left without...
Read moreThe reason for two stars being: The man behind the bar was absolutely rude and impatient, dosent smile and it seems like someone was forcing him to work there. The menu drinks list are long, located on the left side of the bar. He was very impatient of me taking my time to choose what I want. There were no other people waiting to order at that time.
I noticed that he spoke to other customers in a rudeful way when customers were asking questions about the consoles.
Secondly, I was playing the console and found out that the consoles were flithy, and oily. Not one but all of them. My next point that made me really upset was that my drinks were taken away rudely by a lady who works there(she snatched my glass without asking me if I still want my drinks) and there were still 1/4 of drinks left in my glass. I understand that you don't want glasses to be accidentally dropped in the bar as that is common, but could you at least be a little courteous to ask customers if they still want their drinks before taking it away? Especially when the glass is not empty??
Entrance stairs are cool and that's pretty much about it. With all my negative experience, I wouldn't recommend anyone...
Read moreHad a quick visit here while on a few days holiday in the area. My gf had conked out for the night after too much sake and I'd already found that this was right around the corner from our hotel so ventured out for a peek.
It's a great little bar. The (rather inebriated) owner welcomed me as I walked in, after mistaking me for a former regular. Quick guide to the place, he showed me the classic consoles and more modern machines along with the insanely comprehensive games library.
I ordered a reasonably priced rum and coke from the stereotypically friendly Irish bartender then settled down for some Golden Axe on the Sega Genesis/Megadrive. Amazed me how well I remembered it after a good couple of decades at the very least.
For the next half-hour I sipped on a beer, listened in on some chat and watched other playing games both old and new. Perfect place to just hang out and while away some time. If I ever get some money together I'll be looking at opening a place like...
