overall, it was a heartbreaking and uncomfortable experience there. seeing the animals in such small and rusty cages seemed like it wasn't an ethical cafe. hamsters are supposed to be kept with lots of bedding for their burrowing, cages are supposed to be way bigger, and kept individually. unfortunately, most cages had 5-6 hamsters in one small cage. it seemed really unsettling.
entry fee was 1200yen each adult, drinks are compulsory to buy which costed us 1100yen EACH person. to bring out the animal that we chosen, it was 300yen. total, it costed us $46sgd...
the animal we brought out was a ferret (i'm unable to put in videos for this feedback not sure why) and it seemed really stressed out to be away from its partner. it started climbing everywhere, trying to get out of the table. once it started being really playful, it bit my hand (not as pain but could've been worse). it's not ideal for the animals to be brought out against their own will.
also, the black pig that was roaming around kept pushing the animal cages around, causing stress to the animals. we walked around to check out the other animals, seeing that they were actually being sold for extremely high prices. the snake's white coating turning black and the other animals seemed really stressed. they didn't have proper hiding areas as well.
would not recommend anyone to come here due to unethical animal keeping. i hope the animals can have a better place to live in.
UPDATE: saw the owners reply to my review. firstly, the cages were evidently rusty (can see in multiple reviews photos). not only that, having a small amount of bedding for the animals isn't a conducive environment for them. picture in last photo clearly shows a rusted cage. (photo is from another review) second last picture shows the small amount of bedding for a hamster.
secondly, the fees. BASED ON MY RECEIPT AND EXPERIENCE. it was 1200 yen per adult for entry, and every animal costed 300yen to play with for two hours. having rare animals may be a reason for its high pricing, but please use it to keep them in a better environment.
lastly, saying that my review is baseless and malicious. this cafe being defensive towards my review is a huge red flag. it just shows that they don't take in feedback from many other customers. also saying that they have always prioritised the animals since ten years ago -- why did i see multiple hamsters clumped into a single cage, and another hamster that was close to being bald due to sickness. chinchillas were all sleeping in the open with no shelter or small hut for them to hide in, they wouldn't even have a choice to whether they would like to be...

My family and I have visited numerous animal cafes throughout Japan, but the Small Animals Cafe Rockstar in Osaka left us feeling utterly disturbed and upset by their practices.
Right from the moment we stepped in, an overwhelming stench of urine and feces greeted us, immediately raising alarm bells.
Despite our reservations, my son was excited, so we proceeded to our table and ordered drinks as instructed. Unfortunately, the prices for both entry and drinks were exorbitant compared to other cafes we've been to. When we asked to interact with the animals, the staff carelessly placed them on the table without any guidance on handling or caring for them.
We first requested to see the Meerkats, only to witness these poor creatures looking terrified and attempting to escape from the table. Our hearts sank, and we quickly asked to switch to a chinchilla. However, this poor chinchilla seemed petrified and extremely skittish, showing clear signs of unhappiness.
Hoping for a better experience, my son requested to see a ferret, thinking it would be familiar and comfortable around humans. Unfortunately, this ferret was in distress, unable to walk properly and dragging its back body around the table. Witnessing this made us feel physically ill.
Despite having paid for a 2-hour slot, we couldn't bear to stay any longer than 10 minutes. It's deeply disheartening to think that this establishment might prioritize profits over the well-being and living conditions of their animals.
I sincerely wish they would improve the way they care for their animals, but it appears their focus on making money may overshadow any concern for the animals' welfare. Please think twice before supporting this place and consider visiting more ethical animal cafes...

My husband and I had not been to an animal cafe while in Japan and decided to go into this one. It's on the 5th floor and when we walked in, I was immediately in shock at the walls lined with small cages.
Having owned many animals on display and working with animal welfare laws in my home country, within 30seconds of walking into this cafe I saw enough animal welfare issues that made me walk stright out. A sun conour in a tiny plastic cage with nothing to perch on -A 40cm x 30cm cage is not big enough for a rabbit to live in, let alone with zero bedding. I could see the rabbit sitting in it's own pee A chicken should not be living in a small cage with a metal grated bottom. A meerkat is a social exotic animal that should be paired with other meerkats not a 20cm x 60cm cage, with no enrichment -Every animal I saw was exhibiting stress behaviours, weather the animals were raised like this or not, they are stressed.
I understand that this is a small facility, and you want to give guests an experiance with animals they may not have seen before. But there is a reason people dont see these types of animals often, because they require alot of specific care to meet their needs. The care of the animals should be more important than trying to get as many creatures as they can into this small space.
Please do not go to this place, the animals are obviously not put first and are not being taken care...
